Default It's official: Reyland Sierra is faster than Norris Evo...

It's official: Reyland Sierra is faster than Norris Evo...

...to 40mph

As Lee has said, I had the Sierra up at Santa Pod today (it was actually a day booked by Simon Norris. There were three of us in total: Mr. Norris, Andy Barnes in his R33 drag car and the Sierra (or Dagenham Dustbin as Rob from Sumo called it )

My best times were on my second run. They were:
0-10mph 0.597sec
0-20mph 1.099sec
0-30mph 1.327sec (doing 30mph in 30.69ft - that's 9.35mtr!!)
0-40mph 1.886sec (Norris did 1.952 today)
0-50mph 3.022sec
0-60mph 3.572sec
0-70mph 4.282sec
0-80mph 5.731sec
0-90mph 6.652sec
0-100mph 7.655sec

The quarter mile times (Santa Pod timing) were:
60ft 1.771
1/4 mile 11.482@124.7mph (2nd run of day)

The other quarter mile runs were:
11.540@124.61mph (1st run) and
11.765@124.70mph (3rd run)
Cocked 4th run up

Some interesting thoughts/info:

Brief spec of car:
Reyland 2.0 engine with GT35. (606bhp@2.5bar)
17in wheels with Dunlop DO1s.
Straight cut syncro box (being used for 2nd time)
Was running between 1.5 and 1.7 bar boost (there are about 15 clicks on the boost knob, I'm told max boost appears to be in the middle of them somewhere - good to learn that after 4 goes trying the left and right extremes!).

According to the data it was taking me between 0.35sec and 0.45sec for each gear change (this is normal for a Cossie syncro box). Mr. Norris and Mr. Hadland on the other hand (with their sequential dog engagement boxes) average around 0.1sec per change. Needless to say, if the Sierra had a posh box it would save over a quarter of a second per gear change

Not sure what sort of impact the 15mph head wind had, but I'm guessing it wasn't doing us many favours!

Asd Porkie has already said, the car broke a rear shaft on my 5th attempt (a speciality of mine ) which is a shame, but could have been a lot worse...

Not sure whether it will ever see a drag strip again as we're talking about reducing the size of the turbo to make it better on track... plus I seem to break it every time I launch it! Time will tell...

Norris times:
0-10mph 0.565sec
0-20mph 1.056sec
0-30mph 1.551sec
0-40mph 1.952sec
0-50mph 2.650sec
0-60mph 3.022sec
0-70mph 3.425sec
0-80mph 3.847sec
0-90mph 4.477sec
0-100mph 4.967sec
0-110mph 5.525sec
0-120mph 6.147sec
0-130mph 6.948sec
0-140mph 7.797sec
0-150mph 8.821sec

A few times from his 5th run where were slightly quicker for a couple of splits:
0-80 3.839sec
0-90 4.413sec
0-100 4.944sec

I would have asked but there are 2 reasons I didn't:
1 Santa Pod don't allow passengers
2 There was no passenger seat fitted

Bloody impressive for the Sierra

0-60 is very good in comparison.

Does anyone have same set of figures for Relands last Escort Cosworth?
0-60 was 2.89 if i recall correctly but quarter mile was mid 10s so wonder what its like in other aspects?

Great to see that the scene is moving forward, these figures would all be dream world stuff few years ago

By the sounds of things Porkies car could be running similar times when using full power.

Awesome times from Simon,

What other cars ran today then ?

twice i know of that 3dr's been launch'd, and twice it broke a drive shaft .

looking at your terminal speed, you down about 100 bhp, so its capable of doing 10's and 130+ mph. on full boost, as long as its still a 4wd by the 1/8 point.

Norris's times are ok aswell.

I'm just having the D01Js off of the Ears RL7s and put on some new 8x17 ET25 MOs (in grey) as I write. Think it might be time to retire (sell) the RLs now...

He had MAJOR traction issues.
Ran a 10 I think, but the run that stands out the most was a mega launch, followed by 2 huge sideways moments so he gave up way before the half way point, rolled over the line at about 60mph on 11 dead. When I saw that I thought "I'll be made up with that time and I'll be gunning it for the entire length!"

The car is a monster.

Think there's a problem with the diff which is throwing the car sideways. Hope he gets it sorted soon

Full feature on the car in Redline soon
