sorry to be a pain and very very boring, but somehow my computer has just decided to delete my dissertation while i was saving it. it was on my usb and ive been saving it as i go along, so i went to update it and it came up with loads of red crosses in boxes and stuff and then work shut down and i now its completely dissapeared from my usb.... im reallly worried as its my dissertation!!

is there any way i can find it??? ive tried searching etc.. but cant find it and when i open word and click on it on the right as last used documents it says that word cannot open it...

please help if you can

In Word go into tools and options you need to see if there is default autosave location. Then browse to that to see if there is anything there (make sure you can view hidden folders and files (open my computer, tools > folder options > view > hidden files and folders > show hidden files and folders > apply)). You could also try searching your hard drive and USB drive for .asd files (auto-save document) you want to include hidden files and folders in the search.

 

As above really, and next time might be an idea to keep another copy somewhere else, like on the pc itself or on disk or another usb

 

thanks guys, the problem is it was only saved on usb. i had it saved on my computer then took my usb to the library, did some more work, brought it back home and opnened it up on the laptop, did a bit of work went to save it on usb 1st then laptop, and thats when it dissapeared... just took it to pc world and they said they would charge me £60.

i do still have the older verison, but its just very frustrating as this always happens to me and it took ages to think about all the stuff i changed...

soooo..... is there anyting else i can try before i start again maybe please??

ive found it as a temp file saved in word but when i open it i get a few boxes and my name.. can i do anything with that?? thanks!
