Range rover - X5 views
Just wondered if anyone on here had any views regarding the range rover sport or X5 bmw..? Im chopping in my nissan navara but cant decide which to go for. Wont be new but only a year or 2 old. Or is the normal range rover better than the sport..?

if you want one that drives like a car go for the x5.if you want one that looks the best it the range rover sport but if you do o sport buy the diesel.its better than the petrol going by what a few of my customers are saying.one sold his gorgeous kitted petrol to buy a diesel.

Personally i would buy the BIG Range Rover Vouge TD6
Hey hold on - I DID
I gather the Sport has a much harder ride & lacks space
Have driven my pals X5 which is also a harder rider & less space
I prefer the looks of the RR & the interior layout.
It is the best 4X4

range rovers
Personally never been into the chelsea tractors their big, they drink bucket loads of fuel, you can't park em anywhere and now that prick Ken Livingstone wants to sting people that own them in london with another scheme brought to you courtesy of polotricks bollox,
if you buy one don't forget to buy your barbour jacket to go with it

Dangerous is right. Personally, dont think you can beat a TD6 Vogue with all the toys. Just dont get one with a cream interior. The Horse crap will eventually get to it.. The only pain is filling the damn thing up, can get it sailing close to empty, so circa 90Litres can be the norm!! Great motor, comfy (very) big on practicality,(easily get 5 people in, in comfort) looks good dirty, looks good clean. Especially if you ad a few personal touches like Dangerous has, P/Plate, Wheels and S/S Fins!. Also hold the value reasonably.
Each to their own though.

And not with the tacky chrome look plastic trim either

Does it handle okay on the 20's? Any vibrating at speed? 05 TDs arent really meant to go above 18s due to the suspension... Not a dig, just wondering??
If you like your TD6, you REALLY REALLY need to get to your local dealer and drive a 2007 TDV8 ......640Newton Metres of 3.6 litre twin turbo...you will be smitten Soooooo much better, quieter, more powerful, more refined, supercharged suspension 19s std on the vogue 20s std on the vogue SE, supercharged brakes, completely restyled interior, terrain response across the range electric handbrake... HUGELY different...
If you were more local I would get you one for 24 hours

Dangerous is right though the Sport is a slightly harsher ride, and cabin space is more compact, its a cockpit style interior, "encasing the driver" everything is within easy reach
Cant get 3 kiddie seats across the rear bench either purely because of the sculptured seating....
its horses for courses tbh, you need to view both and if you still cant decide drive them...
Personally I prefer the sport, but in 10 years maybe I'd rather have a "big boy" rangie
Used TDV6 Sports are hard to source (UK cars) at reasonable money, but give it till March/April and they will be coming down in value IMO...
I wouldnt buy an X5 at all, the arse is falling out of their values left right and centre..... You dont even have to ask and a dealer will give 8% on a new one....

I have an X5 3.0 Petrol Sport but with an LPG Convsersion.
Drives Great after having the Sport upgrade Suspesnion fitted, some times its hard to remember its a blood big jeep as it handles like a samll car.
I Cant Fault its really but i do like the RR Sport, if was to change it , it would prob be for a RR of some sort.
The X5 can be had for a Good Price now with Loads of Extras.

Cheers for the replys. I think its time for a weekend of test driving. Prefer the look of the sport over the normal range rover and besides id want the supercharged one anyway and i cant justify the money for one at the moment

Damo,
The only vibration from running the 20in alloys is when the vehicle is stationary but in drive & therefore held on the footbrake.
Its not so much of an issue for me as i dont sit in traffic very often
The handling is excellent With its stability control & the bigger/wider tyres it corners very well but does eat tyres on the outer edge.
It gives me all i want from a main vehicle looks, comfort, style, practicality & is well able to tow the Escos or Boat.
I only drive to the station & back in the week which totals 15 miles so dont spend much on fuel.
It returns about 20mpg on average which i can live with
think the V8 petrol & supercharged are too thirsty by far. I know owners of these with their own businesses that cover the fuel & even they comment on how quickly they get through a tank full
Have heard about the new diesel V8 supposed to be a great tool.
Cant see myself buying another one just yet though - feel there is plenty left in mine for the time being Plus am concentrating on paying off the mortgage ATM
which dealership ar you at then ?
BTW also have a Defender 90 300 TDI for Jax

Not sure about the UK but the X5's are the holding their value extremely well.
My g/f's family have had 4 of the ML Mercs and got them due to the huge space inside over the X5 (their choice was down to one of those 2 as Range Rover don't have a very good rep here especially after a couple of bad experiences!). X5 looks nicer IMO but depends what you want it for.
ML's new here are still cheaper than a lot of X5's that are a couple of years old are changing hands for. ML all the way IMO but seeing as that isnt an option, go X5.

Mike, Defenders are all the rage ATM, can't get enough of them, if they are the right spec and price they sell before they even hit the forecourt....
Got a nice used Sport S/chg in Rimini Red/Ivory in atm, £48k...
Got a LOVELY black with black "first edition" coming in next week, £47k iirc...
