Default help with tropical fish

hello girls and guys

Right i only have a tiddly 20 litre fish tank! I have 2 balloon mollies in it, and one of them is heavily pregnant. As its only a small tank putting a breeding net in it is going to be impossible, so does anyone have any other ideas? I've thought about getting a bigger tank but am pretty skinted at the mo after just buying myself a new car and giving the g/f some money to get herself a new one!

Are there any other ways from stopping the babies getting eaten? Also in the tank are 4 neon tetras and 3 harlequins. Last time she gave birth all the babies were eaten within a couple of hours

Thanks very much in advance for any help!!

Rich

could do, i also thought about a sieve floating in the top of the tank. But as it is only quite a small tank it doesnt leave a lot of room for the others!!

Thinking about gatting maybe a second hand tank from somewhere??

cheers

Could try a sheet of clear perspex cut to fit (and cleaned properly) to section part of the tank off and when the molly have given birth, leave the babies in the partition and put the molly back...

maybe you could post a pic of your tank so we know hwat kind of size you have work with?

Years ago when my guppies had babies i got hold of a nursery thing that was a clear plastic pot that went in the tank im trying find a pic of one but again it depends on the actual size of your tank and the sizes you can get them in!?

ok thanks guys. It is a 20 litre tank, so its about 40cm long by about 30cm deep and tall, so not very big!!! Gonna go to the pet shop tonight and get myself either another tank the same size to put mummy in, or get a bigger tank for them all plus a breeding net!! Sod the expense

you NEED a bigger tank, find somehwere that stocks clear seal aquariums as you can get just the tanks quite cheaply (i payed £20 for a 15gallon, 67litres)

Sorry louise, your help was much appreciated!!!! It made me realise tho that my tank is just too small tho!

cheers mr sam, i went to the pet shop last night and saw the clear seal ones, they were a lot cheaper than i thought. Unfortunately tho as the tank i have at the mo is one of those starter tanks, the heater and filter is all built into the lid, so i would also need to purchase these seperately. So I have seen a 60 litre tank there, with everything i need for £79, which sounds like a good price. Think i might have to take the plunge!!!
