Default 42" Plasma TV/Screen or 42" LCD Rear Projection TV

I'm thinking of treating myself for Christmas to a new telly - I want one thats wall mountable as it would save me soooo much space in my front room.

So whats better - plasma or LCD??? Whats the pros & cons of each??

What would people recommend after their own experiences??

Cheers in advance!!!

If you watch football it has to be plasma.
lcd too much image lag
Rear pro poor viewing angles and too deep tv.

all my sales guys say plasma. if you watch anything that moves quickly or the picture pans quickly (motorsport, tennis, football, cricket, golf, action films etc) you NEED plasma

screen burn is an issue, but then a logo is always there to some extent!

if you're buying a 42" right now, plasma

give it a couple of years? lcd

Now I am confused....I've just started looking at LCDs after reading most peoples comments....now you come along & it all goes to cock! LOL!

It'll be used mostly for normal day to day telly, motorsport & action film watching.......PLASMA then???

lcd and lcd projection are different.

any projection tv suffers with viewing angle (much better than they used to be though) and aren't wall hanging

but if you have the cash, a plasma it should be!

I did a fair bit of research on plasma/lcd when I bought mine about a year ago.

Not had ANY probs at all, I went for the plasma and paid 1500 for a model that had just got superceded (th42-pwd7), and a mate of mine spent 2500 on an LCD and wishes he had gone for the plasma.

As stated, there is noticable problems with fast moving scenes etc where the LCD's do struggle.

here mine:

if ur ever in the brum area, pop round and have a look if u want, as I know it can be daunting looking at screens in shops (also useless really).

I looked at plasmas and lcd's. In the end I went for a Sony Bravia 40" LCD and its awesome! Mate spent over 2k on a pioneer and TBH all hes had is probs with it.

Excuse the set-up it needs tidying up before our new unit arrives.

Rear projections still give the best colour definition, but are huge!

Rear projection TVs are huge, ugly, have viewing angle issues and also suffer with burning into the screen.

Plasma is the way to go with a good warranty package.
The deal at Currys that Snedboy suggested sounds like a bargain

As said before... 42 and over i think you'd be better off with a plasma, saw the 40" lcd Sony Bravia (like the one brasso has) and thought the picture was amazing

I bought a 42" philips plasma on tuesday and love it, mounting it on the living room wall tomorrow and all cables will be hidden through into the garage too, can't wait

got something like this
spot on other than when the sky is on the blink, then the colours tend to look odd
but it's crystal clear most of the itme, other than when they show the snooker, you can't tell the difference between the green and the brown

i'll try that now

as for the "big telly, small room" the wall is 3m long and 2.5m high with a 42" telly in there i don't think it's going to be much rtouble
the opposing wal is anotehr 2m longer but it's not as good to stick the telly on
