Well.....I've gone & done it, I think I've grabbed myself a bit of a bargain too hopefully.....brand new too.....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...057695899&rd=1

What do people think - the guys at avforums.co.uk seem to rate it as a good plasma panel which can only be a good thing!!!

No you are correct its only a panel - which is fine as the rest of my kit is all separates, freeview box etc etc.

Ah excellent then

So is basically the screen with the inputs to it

TBH nowdays thats all anybody should really neeed, what with Sky and set top digital boxes, so everybody spends extra ŁŁŁŁ for a crappy tuner, when how often do they actually use it, even if watching BBC or ITV etc bet most just flick to it on the sky box

So DAMN good deal

Update.....my panel arrived at 8:45am on Friday morning!!!

The eBay seller didnt manage to organise a courier like he promised to, so he decided to personally hand deliver it himself from Bristol!!! He left at 5:30am, drove to mine, gave me a hand up the stairs with the panel into my flat & then didnt want a brew or anything & just got off & drove back! LOL! Top service from a very committed seller!!!

Anyway - when I was moving all my equipment for some reason my 5 year old Sherwood amp decided to throw in the towel, I took it to be repaired but was told it wasnt worth it so I had to buy a new one....decided on the Denon AVR-1906 AV Reciever - full of features & has component inputs & outputs etc etc. Little bit pricey but well - the sound quality is awesome....very impressed...my wallet however isnt! LOL!

Managed to mount it all on the wall myself....that screens a heavy fucker I'll tell ya especially when you are trying to hook it on its wal mount - very impressed with the quality on the Panasonic panel - everything is sooo much more vivid & clear!!!

A couple of pics of the new setup....

I've gained soooo much space in my front room now!!!

Gotta to start to expand my DVD collection now to make use of it!!!

Too much mate believe me! LOL! Although I have built things up over a few years now so its kind of spread the cost out a bit!!

I've bought the following this week - all of which have been bargains....

Panasonic 42" Plasma Screen - Ł625 (new still boxed unused-should be roughly Ł1400)
Component Terminal Board for above - Ł10 (reduced from Ł120 believe it or not!!)
Denon AV Amp/Receiver - Ł250 (reduced from Ł350)
Component Interconnect - Ł9.99 (reduced from Ł24.99)
Wall Mount - Ł30 (reduced from Ł150)

Total - Ł924.99 (should be approx Ł2045)

All I can say is if you look around hard enough, on forums etc etc you really can pickup some crackin deals on stuff!!!

The rest of the equipment I already had - speakers, sub etc

Its held onto the wall by a heavy duty bracket thats held onto the wall with 10 4" screws with similar length 8mm rawplugs - believe me it aint going anywhere fast. I wasnt going to take it off the wall & take a picture cos I cant be arsed & I dont think I've got the energy today so this is pic will have to do instead! LOL!

Thats exactly what I want - a panel only. Cept I want it to be LCD, and not plasma. Problem with LCD tho, is that unless you buy a pricy one, then the refresh rates aren't all that good, they still aren't as sharp as CRT (for non-HD stuff I mean) and the "black" isn't as black as a CRT or plasma. I wouldn't wanna spend several hundred pounds + for a screen that gives colour bleed and motion blur.....

im glad i found this thread, as i was under the impression that plasma was the best by far, but im not liking the sound of all this lag etc, so which is better then, LCD or Plasma? i guess i was misinformed

avforums.co.uk

But fro mwhat I have read, it's all a trade off. Plasma has better brightness and contrast, and more "real" blacks (still not as black as CRT mind), but can still suffer screen burn from channel logo's, video games, PC input, etc. LCD can be sharper and more detailed, and doesn't suffer screen burn, but isn't always as bright, and can suffer lag and motion blur...

Personally, I still think the best TV pic comes from CRT. That said, I don't have any HD stuff (Sky, DVD, games etc) so I base all my notes on SD stuff (Freeview, normal DVD, etc) But CRT still does it for me - 0 lag, 0 motion blur, best blacks etc...

Pioneer PDP-427XD or PDP-4270XD proves that screen burn is not an issue anymore and laso has far far better blacks than any other plasma on the market. Its the latest generation of plasma tv and is far superior to lcd any day.Dont like lcs for anything other than wathing still pics absolutely crap IMHO

Pioneer all the way
