got something like this
spot on other than when the sky is on the blink, then the colours tend to look odd
but it's crystal clear most of the itme, other than when they show the snooker, you can't tell the difference between the green and the brown
make sure your sky box is set to RGB
i'll try that now

as for the "big telly, small room" the wall is 3m long and 2.5m high with a 42" telly in there i don't think it's going to be much rtouble
the opposing wal is anotehr 2m longer but it's not as good to stick the telly on
i have the same problem, when snooker is on theres hardly any difference between red and brown, ive got the normal sky digital and i cant see any settings for RGB? i look in system setup> picture settings and its not there?

i have cable at home, but i'll check it at work tomorrow

i think it allows you to choose between "video" and "rgb"

or it may be "pal" and "rgb" if that helps

also, BUY PROPER CABLES!

lose track of the number of customers buying Ł2000 tv and using Ł8 scart!

then in next day "this tv is shit!"

tight arses

I've got a 43" Pioneer plasma and a 32" Samsung LCD. IMO the plasma gives the best picture, by far. I can't fault it

the sky is scart and i've only got one set of rgb connections in the back
but the dvd recorder won't work without pluging into the rgb connection so i can't try doing the swapping over stuff

I recently bought a Sony Bravia 50" rear projection LCD hdtv and the picture is fantastic, you can view it from all angles, don't dissmiss a rear projection LCD because people say they are shit, there aint nowt wrong with em

Sounds like youve connected to your tv with JUST the rf coaxial (aerial) cable, the shitiest connection possible, not surprised the pic or colours dont look good
Also changing to rgb will have no affect as this only affects the output thru the scart, wether to use the full rgb signal or not.
connect via a scart, then u will notice an immediate improvement
and then if u switch from rbg to pal then you WILL notice a difference

One other thing the topic starter may want to consider, as there are differing opinions on plasma/lcd picture quality is WEIGHT, if he wants to wall mount it, Plasma=FOOKING HEAVY Lcd= light as fook, seriously wouldnt want to mount my Plasma on my shonky old plaserboard walls, dont think the neighbour would be too happy when it pulls it down

In your opinion there's nothing right with them, I disagree

The picture on my LCD rear projection is far superior than alot of plasma tv's i've seen

hmm ive got a vcr and sky digital, the vcr and sky digital are connected via scart.
Ive got a spare scart socket on both and two free ones on the tv so how would i do it? could i use my existing scart cable to somehow connected both to my tv and have a better picture quality or would i need to buy another and connect it to the vcr or sky digital and then to the tv?

The scarts with gold plated connections are the best

awww their not small their cosey

try comet website see what they got in the auction page

i work for comet returns and deal with all types. plasma/lcd are the best bet as rear projection you have to sit facing the screen or you wont see it if it on a angle or sunlight hits it plus they huge, also make sure you get HD ready that way in the future you wont need to upgrade .phil

EXACTLY the reason I bought one of the Tosh "picture frame" 36in CRT TV's

a) a good LCD is still silly money (as in , to get good, spend upwards of a grand)

2) CRT still produces the fastest response times for TV pictures

3) CRT still produces the best contrast and colour (tho I think the really expensive plasma's can match or beat this now)

The only thing is it won't do HD (not too much worry, as I don't have/want Sky, don't do PS3/Xbox 360, and won't be buying into HD-DVD or Blu-Ray for a while yet) and annoyingly, doesn't do prog scan from the YUV inputs (thought it did) and it's heavy bastid (2ft deep, weighs 75kg/11stone!!!!)

But it's got such a mint picture, and the built in 5.1 Dolbly Digital decoder and supplied surround speakers are being very usefull since I don't have room to set up my AV amp and Mission speakers yet!!!!

Only real problem with CRT (other than size and weight) is the same problem plasma has - reflective screens! Thats one thing LCD's do better - most don't have the glass front that plasma's and CRT's have and don't reflect lights etc...

But nevermind - Ł250 for a 36" CRT with one of the best big-screen-crt pictures ever made

On the back of the skybox youll have the two scart sockets one will say TV the other VCR (or video or whatever), the one that says TV connect to aux 1 (av1 or whatever 1) on your tv, the vcr will have two scarts on the back, one will say tv, connect that to aux 2 (av 2 or whatever 2) of the tv, that should leave you with 1 scart on the back of the sky box saying vcr or video etc, and one left on the back of your video saying summit like decoder or aux 2, anyway connect the two you got left together.
If the video is marked as aux1 or av 1 and aux 2 or av2 or similiar connect whichever is marked as "1" to your tv as this is generaly the one with an "RGB" signal out.
To record the programs (that you are legaly allowed to ) on your video from your skybox, you will have to select one of the aux channels of the video, probs the same as you have been doing already as you said they were linked via scart already.
Oh and this sounds like you gonna need to buy/use two extra scart leads, and in honesty, kmow im gonna get slated for this, but contrary to what most are gonna say on here with all the super set ups, you dont need the verybest scart leads, ye get the best you want to spend on, BUT the improvement over your coaxial modulated rf will be amazing for you anyway , but do try and get fully wired all 21 pins as without you probably wont get an rgb signal.

Thanks chap, so you have answered my other main question which was wouldnt i be able to connect them altogether using just one more scart lead(so it would be 3 devices 2 scart leads, but clearly its one for each device) but then i guess having 2 or 3 scart leads is always handy as whenever i upgrade tvs to an LCD/HDTV etc then a scart is going to be a must isnt it

well you were right, what i did until i get 2 more scart leads is i unplugged the scart ive already got from my vcr and plugged it into the tv, so sky box and tv are connected via scart and jesus the difference is amazing, i mean before it seemed really clear but now its even better and the sound aswell, i think before i used the scart i wasnt getting the nicam stereo either as now it seems much louder and fills the room

So if your not all scarted up then do it

i'm scarted up to the max
well, the video is scart from the sky then into the telly and direct sound to the amp
the dvd recorder is scarted from sky then rgb'd into the telly and direct sound to the amp
the other dvd player is direct scart into the telly and direct leads to the surround for the amp
the telly is direct sound for the amp
the ps2 is to the telly only
the cd player is direct to the amp

and now i might even take a pic of all the wires to show you what a mes they are

I can relate to that, especially as ive just been out and brought 2 decent scart leads so thats another 2 thick leads to add to the mass just tuck it all away behind the cabinet and you dont see it

You should get one of those programmable remotes so you can do away with all of those remotes and just have the one although the only downside is that you cant perform every single function on it because ive got one and it doesnt seem to have a "select/ok" button (for sky digital) on the programmable one so i reverted back to using the standard sky remote, but ive got 3 remotes, and only use 2 on a regular basis

the sky remote won't work with the telly, all i can get it to do is turn it on and off, the rest is redundant

still, it all works and it's nice to confuse the folks by leaving the amp on the telly channel and watch them turning the volume down with the remote
