Default HID Headlight conversions

thinking about upgrading the candles on the motorbike to HID jobbers.

have been advised by vfr forum that http://www.hids4u.co.uk/ are good suppliers of quality kit. i don't necessarily fully trust their judgement though as you know how it can be with forum sheep

anyone used them or the cheaper options off ebay and haveany comments?

thanks

the SXOC have just finished a group buy on HID's. I think they sourced them from VisionBulbs. Works out the complete kit with a choice of 4000/6000/10000w bulbs about £75 with delivery! Much cheapness!!

There were over 50 units sold in the group buy though iir.

that is cheap presumably for just dipped kits (i.e. xenon, not bixenon)?

Are these cheaper kits circa £75 jus as good as the actual HID's you'd find on say BMW's/Mercs?

just looked at www.visionbulbs.com and they're not cheap - £136 for an H4 kit.

googling them, looks like loads of clubs and forums have done group buys from them. PF next?

vroooom ptssssh i think that they are as good in terms of the light that they chuck out - but i'm concerend with the reliability of the ballasts

Jonzy how long have you used it for so far please? do the ballasts look good quality, or cheap chinese rubbish? being on a bike, they'll be perhaps more open to the elements

I've just brought some H4's 8000k for the sierra..Were'nt the cheapest ones available but the ballasts/wires was spot on!

Fuck me what a difference they made comapred to the old ones!

Went for the high/low beam as with the single beam blub u don't get a low beam....It's a little more expensive....

Words cannot describe how bright they are!

Less than a month, ballast is just a metal box, not really much too see. All the connectors are good quality with wetherproof seals. Cabling is all good, nice and chunky. Very very very simple install, just plug it into the oe plug and then run it too the ballast.

Just looked at that visionbulbs link, my ebay kit looks totally identical! Wouldnt suprise me if they came off the same production line!

Ginge - Got them from Here --> http://www.hids4u.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=213

They are so bright it's brilliant. Had to adjust the beam a little bit as was getting flashed quite a lot from other road users

They are the ones with the motor in the blub, work very very well. Come highly recommended

Here's one of the ballasts attached to my inner wing..

Jonzy good stuff. wouldn't surprise me if they all come from the same place either. but you get different warranty times from different places, so some must be more confident than others, or they will change company name on a yearly basis and avoid warranty

Smit so you've got bixenon where the thing moves on a solenoid to give main beam is that instant? i've read that some main beam conversions give a delay while the second one fires up

it's not about being tight, it's about getting the best

and a 1 sec delay is not really ideal on a bike at speed down a country lane in the pitch dark

This is from low to high beam...

Not high beam to full beam

To high beam it is instant....

Took a little video of mine last night.

Smit they do look the bollocks

so you're saying that there is a delay when you switch dipped beam on from sidelights (as the arc has to fire up) and you get a flash and what not, but when you go from dipped beam to main beam there is no delay as the solenoid moves the deflector position inside the buld?

Paul J thanks mate, i am swaying towards them

There is no delay between switching from low beam to high beam.... When you fire the lights on from off they switch on but takes around 2/3 seconds to gain there optimum level of light

When you switch from driving beam to high beam it's the same as when u had the normal blubs no delay as the solenoid in the blub is as quick as the relay

Some of the FRS boys have got the ebay jobbies with no problems, seem good quality. Best one to go for is the £120 (delivered) kit with a 3yr guarantee. I'm very tempted to get an H7 6000k kit for mine!

got a single bulb bi-xenon kit via Northwester for my bike. in the process of fitting it now, but have tried it and it is the bollocks.

paid for sunday by paypal, arrived yesterday - well happy with the delivery, although it would have been nice to have been better informed about it (tracking number, date sent etc). still, when you're only paying a low price you can't expect too much of anyone's time.

quality looks ok. connectors used are good and well crimped. i expect the ballasts are all the same. dip/main switching is so much better than normal lights - instant you don't have to wait for the main beam halogen to warm up to full brightness

How did you get round the warning system indicating that the lights are not working on the AWS?

Have you still got the dim-dip system in yours? I removed the blue 10A relay in my fusebox to disable it, just in case it did damage to the kit. That may be causing it instead...

So are mine. I removed the blue relay though to cancel the dim-dip out, just in case it did some damage to the ballast controllers. I think this may be causing the problem.

When I put the headlamps on dip-beam, the warning system says the headlamps are not working. I removed the blue relay from the fusebox though, to disable the dim-dip in case it caused any problems with the HID ballast packs.
