Depends on alot really.
If it is a new line or weather you are activating an old line in the house.

If the number has a product marker on it your stuffed.
Things like

Broadband
Red Care
Panic Alarms Bla bla bla

will all effect you being able to get broadband on the line.

See if you can get hold of the current number and do a broadband check on it.

Also if it's a new-ish estate you'll be stuffed. BT laid thousands of lines to new houses over past 10 years using fibre instead of old style copper, then they started selling ADSL and realised that ADSL isnt compatible with these new fibre lines

Lucky

My street was built in the 1870s and somehow had fibre laid down it, i can only assume BT re-laid it a few years ago. When i ordered my broadband i got batted between Demon and BT for 2 months before i finally got BT to come out and fix it. That was only after phoning the switchboard pretending to be an engineer and asking to be put through to someone in openreach Got put straight through to some bird's extension and after she initially wasnt happy, i blamed it on 'some foreign sounding bloke' then i expalined my problem and she proceeded to send an engineer out the following day to rip out the fibre line and re-lay a copper line up the street for me! Can still only get 1mbps though, but i do live in the middle of nowhere Better than 56k tho

Though they then wanted £90 to move my master socket 5 feet across the living room. after a google i did it myself, it's only 2 wires for gods sake

mine took 5 working days which was a monday,, thats with bt...

but was working by the friday...as had the modem plugged in already so was waiting for the adsl light to come on..

then i do work for bt...

the only work they will do is the adsl jumpers in the exchange...,so if you find your line go dead within this time,, thats probaly what there doing... as that how i realised mine was done aswell
