as you know mate we just bought our two huskies,we bought two so they had company when we are out.now i have to say a husky isnt gonna be an easy dog to train and are known to chew but all dogs mentioned are.but a husky does need huge amounts of walking.they dont wear out before you will thats for certain.i did a lot of home work before getting into it and it is alot of work.will ease a bit when we can take em out

labs are prone to hip prob a bit more but all big dogs are,and dont beleive just cos a dog is kc registered its gonna be ok.ive heard alot of breeders swapping paperwork to make their pups look good when the listed dogs aint the parents! this has caught a few of my mates out and ones just spent 4k on a hip op .

i love all dogs but huskies and malamutes are my fave. why i bought our two.
one thing though a dog is a great companion and will love you without question and enrich your life, only if you are prepared to put in the time and effort.

for those that aint seen my post

english bulldog mate,can,t go wrong
ours is a female she needs around half a mile walk a day we take her out around 3-4 times a day, she,s great on her own ,max 3 hours a day,but she snores very loudly, she sleeps in the kitchen in her dog-cage with the door tied open in the day she wonders around ,she,s 1 year old on saturday great dogs
the day we picked her up @ 8 weeks old

around 3.5 months

and now

oh and she likes moose

i,d suggest a great breeder of bulldogs in the midlands he shows at crufts and i think his prices are from 2k up for a puppy
my dog,s grandfather is a champion from ocabo bulldogs

I am blessed with a now nearly 2 year old olde English bulldog named Elvis

I've had him since he was 8 weeks old and I've never regretted taking him!

He's extremely easy in the sense that I can literally leave him indoors 'till dinnertime if I've been out all night because he doesn't get up 'till I do
If for some unexpected reason I can't get home he can stay 24 hours without dropping anything in the house even!

He literally NEVER barks or whines and can spend day's on end just chewing on a bone or wrecking his toys and he's the friendliest dog you'll ever meet: people, animals, kids: he likes them all

The downsides are: he can be over friendly and pretty rowdy and he's the most stubborn dog you'll ever come across
He really has a mind of his own: when he's off the leash he'll calmy wander off, turn back and look at me momentarily before running off straight to the petstore begging for food...
When you call him he'll only respond when he feels like it or if offered food otherwise he'll act as if you're not even there...

This is my Norton. He's 8 now, and came originally from Guidedogs. We've had him since he was a year old.

His loves cardboard tubes (but doesn't chew anything he's not given).....

He spends most of his life in pursuit of....

And the rest of it lazing about and isn't bothered about being left...

And he's really soft and his general attitude on life is.....

But labs are definitely a good first dog, they're very affectionate but will stand being left alone for a bit without wrecking the house, they do moult a heck of a lot though like a lot of dogs. When you first get a dog of any sort if you haven't had one before you'll wonder what you've done for the first week because you'll feel like you're always running after them, but once you get used to them and realise what they give you back you wouldn't be without one.

I have been brought up with GSD's and they are a superb dog in the right hands. Mine is soft as shit and does what he is told. He gets left for 3-4hrs max at a time as I go home at dinnertime and the missus finishes work fairly early but he has been fine. They do get bored but but if you leave them with plenty of toys etc they keep themselves amused. I put chews inside bottles etc and he will mess about with that for hours.

That said they are a pack animal and will follow you everywhere. To the extent of if your washing up he will lay up against you then if you move 5ft to the kitchen unit he will get up and follow you. You can never giove them too much attention and effection. Since we have had him we have hardly sat in the livingroom as he is not allowed in there and I have loved every minute of it!

As already said though do your homework on whatever breed you choose as any dog will try to control the family as they strive to be the Alpha dog.

Bear @ about 8 weeks old:

Then at about 9 months to give you an idea of the rate they grow:

Also he is long haired so take what the others have said about grooming and multiply it tenfold You need to brush them regularly and hoover up all the time if not you will get tumbleweed hairballs blowing around.

Labs are excellent dogs mate and would be a great choice as a first time dog, have had a couple of them in the past and the one i have now is a great natured friendly soft shite of a thing !! Shadow

Also have a dalmatian called Hizzy (named after the late great Steve Hislop) and he's a lunatic of a dog He has a great nature with me, my wife and our kids but pity help any stranger coming into the house !! He is fiercely protective of us all and no one will get in the house uninvited thats for sure !! Hizzy

We got Hizzy as a pup at 8 weeks old and he didnt like being left on his own as he likes attention all the time ! Shadow we got from a rescue home when he was 7 months old and he is as good as gold. They can both be left on their own for quite some time without to much fuss but i have the joy of having my wife work from home so there is usually always someone at home with them both.

No dog likes being left on their own for to long and this is usually when they start to chew things and cause destruction as they feel like you have avandoned them and they need to do something to get attention !

Good luck with whatever you deceide to go for and i know a dog will make a huge difference in your life and i could never be without my two boys now !!
