Default Electrical people?(household/pc)

Right now this is kind of pc/ household but anyone who knows about electrics should be able to answer............

Ive just got a new power supply unit for my pc(520watt) this for some reason came with a 2pin plug even though it was ordered from ebuyer and shipped from a factory near sheffield

Anyway what i did was is used my old power lead, the only difference i can see between mine and the lead that came with my power supply unit is that the 2pin plug says 16A 250V, and on my 3pin plug lead it says 13A 250V.

Now it seems to working fine but is what ive done wrong or should it be ok? god knows why i got a 2pin plug, what use is that to anyone in the uk

all you need to know is power = voltage * current

domestic uk voltage is around 240v, so your 520 watt power supply only needs 520/240 = 2.17 A

i would use a 3A fuse instead of a 13A one, but no big deal. your 3 pin cable can certainly handle the current

what do you mean, better quality? will it supply the power or won't it? that's all there is to it.

better looking maybe. but not after you've bodged on a converter (that aren't cheap for one that isn't a low current shaving one).

forget it, sling it away and use the old one

Agreed. Of cut off the 2 pin plug and wire on a 3 pin one.

Thought about that, but have you seen the picture? its not any normal wire, its kind of coated and bendy and its shielded aswell.
Would it still be a case of snipping the end off do you think?

just get a nrmal 3pin power cable, theyre all the same on the other end.

you're ok as long as it's not a US power supply, as the switch on the back will be set to low voltage and you'll blow it up... lol

we often get PC suff turn up ith the wrong plugs on, they just go in the bin and are replaced with normal leads

i'm no tree hugger, but that must happen so often throughout the world that the waste generated is terrible. can't somebody set up a worldwide computer lead exchange scheme or something?

On the back? back of the power supply you mean? if so there isnt a switch, just one that turns it on or off.
If i can just wire on a 3pin plug onto that lead in the above picture then thats what ill do because as i said its a better quality cable
