Suspension gurus pls help
Ok on my Esc Cos I have pretty much replaced everything in the bay including the power steering rack and I now have adjustable lower arms.
Since putting it all back together the top of the tyres now rub the shock absorber cup.
Bascially I need to get the car to somewhere to have all the tracking set up etc but can't if the tyres rub.
I wound the TCA's all the way in (so they where shorter) when I fitted them and I was thinking that would change the camber and move the top of the tyre away.. but now I'm thinking if I wound the TCA out (so it was longer) the whole hub would move out and tyre would clear?
Hope this makes sense.. prob is I don't actually know how the TCA effect the suspension I thought it just adjusted the camber of the wheel but maybe it does more then that?

Because its mcpherson strut, moving the bottom arm in and out also moves the entire hub in and out as well as altering the camber.
The top of the tyre is about 1/3 of the way down i should think, so every 3mm you move the bottom in will move the top in 1mm etc

no that doesn't explain it at all paul.
i think that what chip is saying (or at least what he should be saying) is that the hub has a fixed angle to the strut (and spring cup). changing the length of the TCA will change the camber of the strut, hub and wheel all at the same time (as well as change the toe setting - the amount that the wheels point towards each other at the front).
it doesn't make sense that changing the TCA will have affected the relationship between tyre and spring cup. something else must have changed.

Ok guys what do I do.. the car hasn't moved and the only reason I noticed is the squeek of the tyres when I rolled it out of the garage to change the rear wheels.
Go for a middle setting? I just need something that safe to drive it two miles to a tracking centre
I think I'm gonna get the club hammer out on those suspension cups anyway but want to know if its something I've changed.. funny as its both wheels aswell. I fitted a tight fitting Grp-A style strut brace to the turretts?

Have you check for any play in the wheel bearings, or changed the tyres recently? How about tyre pressures ? You haven't got a different offset on the front and rear wheels have you, and rotated them between corners recently ? How about new discs that are slightly thinner on the hub face ?
