Sloooooow.

Some dude at an old job of mine had one of these. Always banged on about how he'd kick my arse.

Never ever happened (tho I am stage 3) and he was SO far behind.

Quickish, but not amzing standard, one of my mates has one, feels really smooth and you dont really notice the speed. My new run around at the moment is a Astra GTE 16v and I can see him off easily enough to say that if I was to ever get one, I would have to chip/remap it straight away.

Cheers Mike

What you have to remember is that they are a new, heavy 4wd car.
I would say judging by my mates car its about the same if not ever so slightly quicker then a chipped/exhaust/-31 actuator, air filtered RS Turbo.

they are very good cars

my mate has has one but not the R, very reliable car and goes quite well for 180bhp i think

another mate was banging o about them when they forst came out of how quick his mates was blar blar, so had a quick play in my xr4x4 and just left him standing

but the xr did have a stage 3 yb cossie under the bonnet

These are 210/225 Bhp - So we can't really compare them to tuned Cossie's etc...

Yes and wasted it

Saying that though as an off the shelf car I think they are superb and certainly not what you could call slow. With the right tweeks they can be made to really go well. Would have one no questions as my daily runner

Maybe true - But an RS Turbo wouldn't get you to work everyday

Oh my.....

They have 210bhp or 225bhp depending on the year. Speed is comparable between the two. They handle well, have amazing brakes, will wipe the floor with an RS turbo, Can be taking to around the 270bhp mark for 500 sheets.

Not Cossie worriers without a lot of cash spending on them. 5 door is handy too, and decent reliability. MAF sensors are dodgy on them. And they dont have 4 wheel drive. You can get a 4 wheel drive version, but it was only available in Europe and IIRC it has a 3.0V6 in it. Its def a V6, might not be 3.0.

In standard form, Nothing to worry about, but the 1.8 is a very easy engine to tune. 400bhp+ FWD in the Seat too.

I've used my very tuned RS Turbo for the commute to work everyday for the last 11 years with no problems at all. It's only been my swap of job which has meant me getting an A4 for daily duties that has stopped it. A well built and prepped RST is not an unreliable car. The myth stems from twats that buy a munter with loads of miles under its belt and expect a Ł15 bleed valve to give them a large hike in power

Ive had a play with one but only over a short distance, I over took it doing about 45mph and thought that was that, I looked in my mirror about 1/2 a mile down the road and saw it flying up behind me, I got my self into the right gear for when he caught me up, As soon as his front end was level with my boot I floored it, I pulled away from him quite will but then had to go to the petrol station.

Also had a play with an S3 and to cut a long story short He couldnt keep up with me

Sorry but i have to disagree they are quick motors!!!

Not sure if the one i went up agianst was standard or not but it was fookin quick. I was in my saff at the time (400bhp) and i had three people in the car and although i got past him easy enough i would still say it was no means slow and think a 300bhp cossie would have had trouble imo.

Yep - They are the same engine

Early models were 210Bhp and after 2003 they were 225Bhp - And they are FWD not 4WD like the S3

Yeah same enigne, it's also in TT bt they have 4wd so greater tnsmission loss, VAG 20V it's fitted to everything very good engine.

They are not a slow car at all might not be as quick as stage 3 cossie in a straight line but can keep them honest around a track. Charlie and Dan proved that at National day.
