Default Please help..what would you do?

..assumning you wanted an E55 AMG

I am goin to see 2 cars tommorrow so assuming they both good i have this dilema.

One is silver the normal colour on a 1998 up for 10k including 6mths RAC warranty with black leather etc and 78000miles

The other is a techno violet VERY rare with purple and black 2 tone nappa leather interior with sat nav and BOSE upgrade sound (basically every option) with 1 years RAC warranty up for 9200k but has 107000 miles

Now i want the purple one as its a lovely colour with lairy interior BUT does the higher milage put me off?..It has to last 3 years for me as an everyday car (yes petrol will be high at 5.5litres )..warranty is good from RAC...i guess the rareer colour combo would offset the future sale against lower milage?

HELP

go for the silver one - it'll be easier for you to sell in 6 months (when you get bored of it) 'cause of the lower mileage and more restrained colour

What do you do with all these cars? Every time I look on here you're after something different.

I do like the Ferrari though. Always the one I fancied.

I'd rather have the rare one with all the extras, with an engine that size the mileage difference between the two wont make much difference i wouldnt have thought!!

..apparently these cars where hand built at AMG the engine is hand built too!..No computers at all....was told by a specialist they are bullit proof as with only 360bhp and 5.5L is a walk in the park....with a years RAC warranty which is extendable i neednt worry at all

Phill seriously do you think you will own it for 3 years you have had loads of cars in 6 month cant see any chance of you keeping it that long but i would go for the one out of the two thats the best car all round not the mileage

The techno violet sounds the better out of the 2 if you can live with the colour!

I've got to admit, you've got good taste in cars

I run high milers because I cant stand the depreciation!

Admittedly its BMW's (your favourite CAR!!!!), but I think the logic is the same.

I tend to spend between Ł10k and Ł20k depending on the car (and usually 7 series or 5 series).

The 7's I used to run I would buy with about 95k on the clock, and then sell when I got to about 150k. At a rate of 30k miles a year, that means every two years. I took a massive hit in depreciation even then, but they stayed fairly reliable.

This time, I decided to spend a little extra and get a slightly lower mileage one, and to be honest, it doesnt seem to have made much difference. I got to about the 95k ish that I usually buy em at in almost no time! As such, I may as well have just saved the money and gone for the higher miler.

The only observation was that one of the cars I bought had been involved ina pretty serious accident (not notifyable, just a crash repair) which I didnt pick up ( ) before I bought. It was only when I got her on the ramps and saw that one of the struts didnt match the others that I got suspicious! I had loads of trouble with this car, and I worked out that pretty much all the trouble I had was probably attributable to the accident! (though this is my paranoid opinion).

Given that the AMG is a motorway cruiser, and not particularly good at the twisty stuff, it is likley to have had a reasonably easy life. Also the age car you are talking about is imho back in the days when Merc could still build cars properly.

So.... in a nutshell,

If it is truly a straight car, with a car like a MErc, the mileage is irrelevant. Go for the one that you prefer.

Hope this helps

JJ

the longer warranty would be a clincher for me.

high miles on a low stressed V8 is nothing. but remember the suspension etc has also done these miles.

if its been mainly motorway miles then it'll be fine.

my Rover 620Ti is just about to hit 130k miles. granted i gave Ł500 for it, but if well looked after (mine has FSH etc) then it should be ok.

miles have rarely put me off a car.

i bought an XR4x4 with 140k miles on it, Rover 800 Vitesse Sport with 120k miles, a Pug 405 Diesel with 160k miles as well.

all reliable!

I'd almost certainly go with the intention of buying the higher miler

Good luck matey - let us know what you went for It sounds to me like the Purplye one is the winner though! If it has been well looked after, it could be a no-brainer!

A mate of mine just bought an SL55 AMG. It is just astonishing!! A little out of my price range sadly though for a long long while LOL

They were part of the "Designio" range that Merc brought out a while back.
Quite exclusive and rare.
They also made CLK 55 AMG's in a really shitty bright yellowy green colour and A Class Mercs with different coloured panels all over.

As far as i know they dont do the "Designio" range anymore but i can find out if you want.

its the same kinda purple as the techno violet that you see m3's in...certainly looks different...and maybe the only one in that colour combo with that 2 tone interior?

Hopefully it will be mint.

saplover yes apparently from 2000 they where made in the mercedes factory no amg hand builds...although merc have put to take over amg by 2010 apparently as they are seperate tuners at the mo

having seen plenty of mercs up the airport with over half a million miles on them, I'd say over 100k miles isn't much to worry about. as long as it's been looked after.

go purple.

Personally, I think the AMG E55 is a proper stealth weapon! No-one really expects and E class to be quick, whereas the newer stuff kinda wears its badge on its sleeve! Thats one of the reasons I bought the M5! Kinda slips under the radar until its waay to late!!! PMSL

Post some piccies if u can!

ALL 210 E CLASS HAVE RUST ISSUES MAINLY TOPS OF THE DOORS ,WHEEL ARCHES ,BOOT LIDS WINGS .FOR SOME REASON THE BODIES WERNT GALVANISED.

AS FOR THE AMG CARS VERY NICE ENGINES VERY ROBUST AND IF LOOKED AFTER GIVE NO PROBLEMS,

TYPICAL 210 FAULTS ,

INNER FACES OF REAR DISCS CORRODE QUITE BADLY
SUBFRAMES ROT UNDERTRAYS CAN COVER THIS.
DIFF SIDE SEALS LEAK
REAR SUBFRAME BUSHES PERISH
LOWER FRONT BALL JOINTS KNOCK
ROLL BAR LINKS RUBBERS PERISH
FRONT SPRINGS CORRODE AND BREAK OR IN RARE CASES SPRING HOLDER COMES AWAY FROM BODY.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE FAULTS THAT YOU CAN COME ACROSS BUT WHEN WORKING FOR A DEALER YOU ONLY SEE THE BAD THINGS.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE THE 210 IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MERCS.

HOPE THIS MAY HELP . MAKE SURE ITS A GOOD ONE

Phil, at 107000 miles it's just about run in.

Much better build quality than Bm's

My 500SEC had 170,000 on it and drove great.

and every cunt has a silver one. (no offence Aduz - mine was silver too)
