Adjustable Rear Beams - Which is the one to go for?
#81
All these people who are going about having Group A this that and the other - remember, in 99% of cases on this board, they're for fast road or very occasional trackday use.
Judging by the limited driving talent, it just seems sensible to suggest that WRC back ends on cars that do three trackdays a year is more than slight overkill, hence why I think Brom's setup offers excellent value for money. Obviously on Brom's car, it's different....
Welding on my beam looked spot on too - it's now resting in the back of a Zetec Turbo powered 3 door.

Great thread with lots of good opinions, but can anyone explain (technically) why the Brom beam is better, or the Ahmed one or the Group A one ?
The Group A beam in the pics looks different from the Group A beams in RS500's in Touring car times end 80's with the long ali/mag arms, will these work better than Ahmed/Brom "fast road" versions ?
Is there an explanation on what makes these beams work so much better than std, presumably altering roll centers and camber/toe change ?
I don't think it matters too much if the beam is round or square besides stiffness, but the pick up points and their relative possition to the wheel is what will matter - Just some thoughts.

a big part of grp a being thought of as 'better' may be that the associated spring and damper rates are also added at the same time which will also be an improvement over std road ones, or most 'fast road' ones.

And so do the Group A beams have better pick up points again than Brom and Ahmed ?
Tim, are you talking about Escos Rally Group A beams ? I assume this is different from 3 door Group A WTCC beams as the long ali arms on that other website look like the old Texaco style WTCC ones.

when i designed the beam the zoo beam i took the rs00 beam as a starting point it has extended mounts on front as most will know i then slotted the holes and played about with toe in and camber angles as the wishbone moved threw its arc
it took 3 beams to get it how i wanted it and as mike says it does what it says on the tin
hope this helps

Thanks for the explanations so far, another question though - why is it called a 6 degree beam ? what is the roll center changed to and from ?
Does anyone know what the alloy/mag long armed 3 door WTCC cars were running as far as 6 degrees etc goes ?
Like most of you, for some reason, I need to know why it works - I believe, from the experts here, that it does though ! The number of people that have explained that this conversion was worth more to them than a bunch of hp is testimant to it's benefits.

Sorry if the questions are getting painful, just trying to understand what is clearly an important part of the car, PB
