Default Bits for the calibra, manifold, exhaust, turbo + T3 QUESTION

Funky manifold

Turbo, decent size but needs a rebuild

3" exhaust with rather nasty 5" tailpipe that looks far too big

Exhaust also has a VTS unit in it, to dump the gasses straight to atmosphere if i want, might be useful at Pod i guess but not really something i would want on the road.

Turbo is pretty comprehensively wankered though, its got FAR too much play in it, the shaft is like a prick in a bucket

Allegedly its a T3 with a roller bearing core, but personally i've not heard of anyone fucking around with a standard T3 core to make it a roller bearing like that so i think the previous owner was fed bullshit, plus its got no water feed and you would expect one if it was a roller bearing.

Anyone ever seen a roller bearing turbo that looks like a normal T3 from the outside? (ie standard looking shaft etc)

Im hoping its not a roller bearing as if it isnt it should be pretty easy to repair.

Will get it apart at the weekend hopefully and have a look

Not an expert by any means but it doesnt look like a roller core to me.

Would seem pointless on turbo with an already low intertial load.

I definately agree that if it is then its a stupid fucking idea

Bloke who sold it was adament it had a "replacement roller bearing cartidge fitted instead of the plain bearings" though

Chip,

Let me have the T3 turbo on Sunday.

I'll get Vince to look at it and report back.

May be worth a "soft" (low cost) rebuild and fitting a 360 deg bearing (if not fitted already).

Peace of mind for you/Cally knowing that the turbo is up-to-the-job

Im never a fan of BB turbos at all, but there are a lot of small turbos that use BB cores.

R34GTR and S15 200SX standard turbos for example...

But im 99% sure that guy wouldve been fed utter bullshit like most mugs who mod cars.

Ok Doug, that sounds like a plan

Maybe if it is a dodgy roller bearing core vince will have a normal T3 one he could replace it with so i just use the housings and wheels

Ive not seen any cossie with a .60 compressor side before so im hoping it can flow a little more than a normal "t34" but havent had it next to one to compare the wheel size yet, as obviously if its a .6 housing but on a smaller wheel its not going to flow more anyway.
