Default OUIJA BOARDS - Do they work?

IMHO Yes.

My story:

About 8 years ago, I did a ouija board with a few friends; havent done one since.

We had a glass table from my mates mums house, did a-z on a piece of paper, cut them up and placed them in a half-circle at the top of the table.

We then put YES & NO at the bottom below the letters.

We put a small light glass in the middle of the table and we all rested our fingers on the bottom of the glass.

Our chant was "spirits, spirits, are you there, if you are then give us a sign and go to Yes"

It didnt work for a bit and we were teens and pissing about a bit.

we said it a few more times...

it started to move....

FOOKIN slowly tho ...

We were asking questions etc and it was answering, was weird as we spoke to a war victim who was under 10 hence being slow maybe????.

Spoke to the next person, and it was well random, letters everywhere

Then we got someone else, again someone that died in the war;

This was a general of some kind, the glass moved SILLY fast ie as in us not moving it

and is the optimum smilie

I said ok, what do I call my nan

It spelt our .. L .. I .. T .. T .. L .. E ..

No-one knew that but me, and I hardly touched the glass, and yes I used to call my dads mum Little Nan and my mums mum big nan (My mums mum is still around)

was a bit wierd after that ...

we went out, and after walking down the road not so long a friend of mine (also doing the ouija) went really cold had all our coats off us and was uncomprehendible.

When he turned out fine it seemed to go to another mate of mine

We went back and smashed the glass at the end of the night, because we found out later, when speaking to people on the ouija, when finished, you are supposed to force spell out GOODBYE, we didnt and thus left the spirit out into the room

NB: DONT do a Ouija.

fucking pmsl.....

they do NOT work ever,,,,,....

we used to do loads of em, and noticed a pattern....

if all the group lightly rest their fingers on the glass, someone without really knowing it will choose the first letter,...

the more letters that are used, the more likely it is for the rest of the group to help move the glass to other letters,...

ie: lets say i start by moving it towards t.....many mnay words begin with t, so you can guarantee that someone else will have thought of a word.....
eventually, the group will all be thinking the same word,...and thus,..making the glass go to remainder missing letters........if you get me...lol....

when i was about 14 there was a girl in our school who was really into this stuff.of course we all decided to start doing this for a laugh.
one session it told us this girl tracy was going to die, yeah right!
3 days later she got run over and killed outside her house..............seriously fucked us all up.

its a very dark subject and not to be taken lightly-could have been a coincidence but ill never know.i was there, saw the spelling and saw her get run over.

They do work. Im tempted but i dont wanna mess with shit like that.

My mum done one years ago and she would never do one again.... (think thats why our family has such shit luck...thanks a lot mother )

Anyways she done it with her auntie, uncle and cousin when she was about 25. they were doing and it started moving around the board. it then spelt out the name Christine. no one knew a Christine except my mum. It was the same name as her best friend that had died when they were 18 (she died in a car crash the car crashed into a lamp post and came down on her head). it then spelt out leave me alone

Her auntie, uncle and cousin did not know about my mums best friend and i know they wouldnt of messed around with it

Like i say i would like to but i dont think its something u should mess with.

Go to a medium or something.

We did one when I was 17 (God that was a long time ago!) and it was spelling out all kinds of stuff about some old woman, we took it turns to take our hands off the thing so that it wasnt one person in particular. Was a bit creepy - I never got the impression someone was forcing the glass either.

Do they bollox!

Keep your hands off the glass, and then when it moves, I'll believe ya.

Derren Brown has already proved that people will believe what they want to....

I nicked the info off Wikipedia, but I've heard this stuff before:

The ideomotor effect is a psychological phenomenon wherein a subject makes motions unconsciously, especially while attributing the motion to a paranormal or supernatural force in which he/she believes. Unexplained phenomena such as automatic writing, dowsing, facilitated communication, and Ouija boards can be attributed to the ideomotor effect. The effect is extremely powerful and many subjects cannot be convinced that their actions are originating solely in their own minds.

The term was first used in a paper discussing the means through which the Ouija board produced its results, by William Benjamin Carpenter in 1852. In the paper, Carpenter explained his theory that muscular movement can be independent of conscious desires or emotions.

Scientific tests by American psychologist William James, French chemist Michel Chevreul, English scientist Michael Faraday, and American psychologist Ray Hyman have demonstrated that many phenomena attributed to spiritual or paranormal forces, or to mysterious "energies," are actually due to ideomotor action. Furthermore, these tests demonstrate that "honest, intelligent people can unconsciously engage in muscular activity that is consistent with their expectations" (Hyman 1999)

Of course, noted scientists like Farady must be wrong, and it must be unexplained ghosts

My mum did one when she was younger and she has always begged me not to ever try it myself....

My older cousin did one years and years ago with her friends and it spelt out something which her grandad called her as a little girl before he died, nobody else knew about the name!

Have done it a few times and i do believe it works, did one at school, and we tried to burn the paper letters afterwards and they would not burn.. they were paper! Did it a coupe of times with family & step dad, and we had contacted an old woman who had died in our house before we moved in, and we got her name,
sometime later we received a greeting card addressed to her, which proved it was true.
Also my step dad had told me of a time he was a bit sceptical, and he called it a load of bollocks, and the glass lifted from the table and shot across the room and smashed.

What influences it is very strange, and i would not advise doing it for fun.

the world is a simple place, its all science.
there's also things science can't explain.

can't really comment on ouija's having never done one. who's to say there aren't such things as spirits/ghosts.. etc. Just cos we can't see them. Can't see infrared light with the naked eye, but it's still there.

If you can be hypnotised, it means that you are open to suggestive thought and can be easily influenced . That's why when you see it on the TV, they reject lots of people, as they're not susceptible enough to it...

Easiest way is just not to do one...that way the problem never arises...nobody ever gets positive stories from this anyway do they?...so doing it either makes you a mug or means your friends all die...nice one

My mum went to a medium after her mum died...and whether it ''worked'' or not..she said it didn't tell her anything she wouldn't have already known/couldn't have found out anyway...
I do think it can be helpful when somebodys just died and you need some comfort maybe...just from a positivity side of things..but long term, waste of money...

Then again I've been brought up to be very sceptical...don't generally believe in things I can't see/explain...

Never done a board before but can comment on the hypnotist thing and Derren Brown.

Earlier this year I went to watch his show. Anyone who's seen it will know a lot of the act is suggestion for carious bits (like his tv programmes) but there was one bit at the beginning where he got some people up on stage for one of his mind-reading parts. You know on the tv when he touches someones head & goes "sleep" and their head falls forward & go into a trance-like status: he did this to the lad who was in the row infront of me. This lad was not a stooge as he was in the year below me at school. His g/friend & 4 others he was with were absolutely gob-smacked at what happened. Definately true and not staged.
