Monitors - SECS v PECTEL v COLLINS
Conparision needed
between a SECS Monitor & a PECTEL one...
Apart from the prices etc, how about functions, ease of use etc.
Minus to me for the pectel one would be they're few and far between..........so command rocking horse shite prices.
Minus for the SECS would be the start up sensor check function (ign on).
You're views.
Ps This isnt a Simon slagging post either, anybody wanting to do so can fuck off!

secs easier to use
Pectel more reliable readings it seem
Pectel displays what the ecu sees
SECS displays what the ecu should be seeing if there's no fault with the ecu plug/ecu
secs alarms user configurable
Pectel ones aren't unless you very clever
Modded pectels with the flashing warning lights are better than standard
Sometimes hard to see alarms on secs if you're on track
although with both you could wire an audible warning in easily
pectel has
ign angle
ign pulse duration
many have egt
peak hold only on some.
logging
oil/fuel pressure on some
Motorsport/wrc credentials?
Secs has
cheaper to buy
blue screen sometimes available
easy to set startup message
peak hold on most stuff
no ecu mods necessary & fits L1 to p8
also, collins= same as pectel for almost all intents and purposes yet readily available
i expect i will be corrected on something...

PassionFord Post Whore!!
i use a SEC monitor,
and really like the warnings setting and the shift light.
i've got a warning light strap'd to my tacho, and its easierly noticed even on a trackday.
The main down side, is its not design'd to run with a 5 bar map sensor, so dont read the boost correctly.
As for Pectel monitor, i do like the options of trimming of the ign and fueling.

Go for the collins Pro. Order today....delivered tomorow......nice and shiny and new.
It shows:
Revs
Map Sensor
Ignition
Water Temp
Air Charge Temp
Volts
Throttle Position %
Injector Opening Time
Oil Pressure
Lampda Reading
Fault Detection
Can Adjust:
Fuel
Ignition
Ive used one for a year now and no problems.
You DONT need the collins board or chip either to run it.
Hope that helps.

I've worked with them all, Pectel is the best, but yes hard to find and getting tired, I have one here that needs a new board due to delamination thru corrosion. New board is Ł300 !!! Keep em dry boys
I can supply the collins monitor which is a very good replacement for a pectel. About Ł300 plus the VAT in standard form. About Ł400 for the adjustable version.
Secs is a good monitor too but not as easy to install, but easier on the pocket.

Franco,
For the record, the SECS monitor checks **ALL sensors at ALL times.
It was designed to be a cheap diagnostic tool. Nothing more nothing less.
** ALL sensors meaning the ones it was designed to check which does
include everything except the crank and phase sensors.
If these stop working your car wont run anyway. !

Thanks for that Simon, if anything i feel the SECS might edge it just on price - no real bad press for these (apart from the haters!).

Nice bit of kit, though I'm sure Sue told me they do need to mod your ECU to run it.
I went for the IAW Monitor software instead. You can use it as a datalogger too.

I was lucky to have on of the very first available, and found it to be a spot on bit of kit......
