Monitors - SECS v PECTEL v COLLINS
#41
Secs monitor has absolutely nothing to do with the ecu as it wires into teh harness.
As for pectel and Collins monitors, both mine certainly work with ALS files. The only thing they do wrong is report the advance wrongly due to teh way the base is multiplied, but thats actually a software error and nothing to do with teh datastream as the advance in teh map is reported correctly.

Stu,
All I can do is report what happened. Justin's car on standard P8 worked and started fine. After swapping over to P8 8-injector / ALS ECU, car wouldn't start. Removed SECS monitor (after eliminating everything else), car started first turn of key. Maybe Simon can shed some light on what this could be?

There is absolutely no reason why the monitor wont work with any configuration.
Probally an installation error or faulty monitor/monitor loom.
Nice bit of kit, though I'm sure Sue told me they do need to mod your ECU to run it.
Not neccesarily true, I've found they will work on any P8 or L8 thats been chipped. Never tried a L6
I have the Collins PRO monitor and it is an excellent piece of kit. Unfortunately I am selling it due to converting to Autronic. Certainly seems to help with the 'Cossie Paranoia'

There will be no import duty, fees or postage costs, I guarantee you that. I can send the monitor to a family member in the UK and it can be picked up in person, or sent from within the uk.
This monitor will be sold to someone in the UK, as cossies are like rocking horse shit here so there is no point selling cossie bits here.

So is a SECS very complicated to install, or just more so than above mentioned?
Is SECS qoute 'SECS displays what the ecu should be seeing if there's no fault with the ecu plug/ecu ' a problem rather than actually seeing what the ECU is seeing?
For people suspecting running problems, rather than wanting to keep a full time check, a rolling road diagnostic would suffice for fault finding?

If you can solder a plug, you can fit a SECS monitor .
As to your other comment, a lot of electrical issues are random. Monitoring it all the time and you're more likely to see what it is the second it "hiccups" . I would never get rid of my monitor for this reason, it has prooved invaluable on numerous occasions.

I noticed the oz bit, and while it has been sorted quite easily.......................I had other means of getting it from Oz without duty (as i can with other stuff! ).
So fingers crossed i'll have a nice Collins monitor by next week!
Ps i did not want to go down the OTHER route as it would mean i wouldnt have it till after the new year!

As mike said, about a hour max to wire in to the ecu plug.
As for how the monitor works, its wired into the loom at the ecu plug before the ecu, so reads the ecu inputs direct off the sensors, and not off the ecu itself,
were as the colins and pectel setups plug into one of the 2 extra plugs in the loom thats not used normally, and get the info off the ecu itself.so if the ecu fails, the monitor might show this.

leecavturbo highly unlikely, i think the datastream is unique.
if you can tell me what the datastream from a dta ecu looks like, i can confirm if it will work.
