cam timing ?

Default cam timing ?

when fitting a decompression plate would it retard the cam timing or advance it ???

if it's on an escort i don't think it will do anything as all your doing is moving the head and block apart by a small amount the cam timing is controlled by where the teeth are set in the two pulleys nothing else unless you've got an adjustable pulley

Depends how thick the plate is but if your using a vernia as said you can compensate. A friend of mine is running approx 2mm plate and the teeth on the belt no longer line up on the std cam pully with every thing timed up due to the head being higher up

the cam pulley and the bottom pulley have to be a whole number of teeth apart though, and you just slightly lengthened the gap they are, therefore the top pulley now has to move forward slightly (advance) to sit cleanly on the teeth again.
