Default st170, banging noise coming from box in engine bay, help me!

just popped out and halway thru my journey i got a horrible ticking noise coming from under the bonnet, traced the noise to a silver box mounted on a bracket behind the inlet manifold. on the bulkhead with a multi connector connected to it.

sounds like a solenoid clicking over as i managed to stop it by knocking it with a large stick but it returned

does anyone know what it is? and is it expensive

pic to help, car is a 52 plate ST170

cheers for any help, ruined my night

The clicking nouse is, as you say, a common fault.

See my site - http://www.fordst170.co.uk/known.php under "Clicking noise coming from the dashboard" - comes with FINIS codes in case you want to fix it yourself.

The silver box costs around Ł200 or so. If you're a club member of FFOC, you could get it cheaper using FFOC discount card and ordering via fordpartsuk

Good luck!

The silver box in your pic is the actuator for the dual inlet tract.
