Default NOT car realated....HDMI any experts here....

Hi All

A friend of mine has just bought a denon dvd palyer (approx £600) and is using the HDMI output into his panasonic plasma (7 series) using an HDMI input board. The picture is terrible, particulary on dark scenes it so blocky (technically term I am sure).... compared to my 3 year old player into a 5 series screen using component input it is miles behind.....so my question Is HDMI overrated or have we done something wrong in the set up???

thks

Malc

I can only imagine you have done something seriously wrong, HDMI is supposed to be crystal clear!!

Are all the settings on the TV correct? and on the DVD player?

Double check you have set both the player an the TV to work with the HDMI inputs and outputs, and also check your cable!!!! There are loads of cheap/shitty cables out there, not least the supplied cable's you get with gear.....

Then take the cable back, change it for another and try again.

Tried different discs? Tried the player hooked into a different TV? Tried the TV hooked into a differet player? Tried a different lead?

I would say it's unlikely the TV, but the HDMI input could be damaged or faulty, same as on the DVD player. The lead might be the culprit - you simply do not know till you try things!
