Default cam locking tool for yb

can you buy these?

reason im asking is im still not sure wether ive timed my engine up rite

its on a stand and its been turned over with no contact but when you look at the top pulleys they look a tooth out but then they dont

all depends on how you look at them lol

this is the first time ive done a yb, cvh and zetecs are easy but this is just causing me a head ache as everytime i do the tensionor a pulley moves

so where can i get a cam locking tool

put a pic up of what you you've set them too and im sure you'll have quite a few answers

Both pointers in the cam pullies should be pointing at each other (level with the head meets cam cover line) and the lug on the crank pully should be at the TDC marker.

ok

i put the pulley arrows facing each other on the head line

the dizzy pulley is on the dot and teh rotor arm is pointing at the dot in the dizzy

the bottom pully is the crank sensor lug on the timing mark not tehgroove nxt to it

eveytime i tighten the tensionr the bottom pulley moves or the inlet cam moves

when i thought i had it rite i turned it over, no contact etc, and nw the exhaust pulley looks like its a tooth out

sometimes, if the head has been heavily skimmed you can get a situation where the cam pullies point slightly up at each other (if you get what i mean).

will try and find some pics in a mo

Basically, as you say that doesn't look quite right. When i've had that situation before, i've just taken the cam belt off the top pullies and started again, re-set all the pullies to TDC marks an put the cam belt back round.

Sorry i can't be more help

Hi, I just fitted my belt the other day, I used a set of large Mole grips between the two pulleys to lock them in place, once you get the belt on and a bit of tension on the belt, release the mole grips, so you can properly tension it.

Cheers, Paul T.

You could've just clicked the little bit at the bottom of this page which says, "watch this topic for replies"

XR... If your head and block has never been skimmed 100% Defo and you are running a std H/G... It will line up but it will be tricky ... stick with it or get someone to hold the cams and crank while you do it..
