man, i am as excited as a little school kid all over again
and this is deffintly going to be on my christmas list
as long as they do that stupid bullshit transforming computer crap between scenes like they've done with the box sets
i still get a tear in my eye when i watch that scene, and shed tears when it's watched as the whole film (you'd never guess i was a tf fan would you )

there are LOADS of versions of the movie
one with the star wars style scrolling at the front (i've got that on video)
one with the swearing (i've got that on vcd)
one with niether (the dvd)
and there is one more with a combo, but i can't remember which version that is combining
swearing = ultra magnus saying "damn it" and spike saying "holy shit" or words to that effect

In 2007 theres a NEW film! I get the impression it will be a bit darker, but maybe Im wrong.

the new transformers movie trailers are supposed to be just to put people off the scent
the film is going to be nothing like it apparently
but if you read what they are saying, prime is going to be a different design because they want "reality" and not to turn a normal truck into a 30 foot high transforming robot
if prime becaomes a long nosed truck, the film will flop

Man I loved them as a kid. I had an Optimus Prime too... doesn't sound so rare to me. I fookin hate hindsight, I'd be a millionaire if I'd known then the things I know now!
I don't remember anything about how he died though. What's the story?

decepticons attacked the autobot base on earth,big big battle, optimus prime flies in to help out as autobots outnumbered,gets into a fight with megatron after blatting loads of decepticreeps to a sweet soundtrack. just about to defeat megatron when hot rod interferes as he can see the gun that megatron is about to pick up (its hidden,prime cant see it),hot rod gets in the way,then megatron shoots optimus a few times "fall,fallllll" then as hes about to finish off prime, optimus has a last ditch effort and double hand swings round and batters megatron off the side of the wall,crititcally injuring him too. prime then dies of his injuries on a hospital bed but not before passing the autobot matrix of leadership onto ultra magnus ("till all are one!"),turns grey,dies,lots of tears!

once i've done some work i'll get to explaining the intracaies of the tf world for all to understand, and i will forget the comic stuff (uk and us were different storylines and split after a while) as well as avoiding all this gen 2 stuff and armada and all the minicon angles

right then, now i've finished for the day (hopefully ) i can explain
the original tf was set in the mid 80's and had 2 series of cartoons
then there was a gap of 20 years to the setting of the film
the 3rd series of cartoons followed imidiatly after the film left off
there was also a 4th series but this only had 3 episodes, called the rebirth which started the headmasters series off
this is the first 20 or so minutes of the film:
the autobots (ab) are losing their battle with the decepticons (dp) and are going to make a run to earth to get more energon
the dp rule cybertron (tf home world) but the ab have control over both of cybertrons moons and are winning the struggle on earth
unfortunatly for prime, lazerbeak has been spying and megatron learns of the secret mission
the whole crew of dp board the ab ship and a massacre ensues "such heroic nonsense" megatron says as he piint blank blows ratchets head clean to dust (i think it's ratchet, can't remember at the mo because it might have either been the red one, but i digress)
starscream makes the comment that it was too easy and megatron lets him into his plan to slip past the ab early warning systems in their own shuttle before wiping out their earth base for good
in the mean time, hotrod (later to become rodimus prime) and daniel (spike witwickys son)are at "lookout mountian" watching the shuttle arrive when daniel spots the hole in the side, cue hotrod opening fire and then the big battle begins
this battle last all night
bloody hell, i've getting the shivers just thinking about it
and they just about get a message to ab moonbase to send reinforcements
the morning comes and the ab's aregetting properly spanked by the dp's, mainly by the useage of devastator (a constructicon gesalt/merger/combiner) who is litteraly tearing the ab city apart with his bare hands
cue the ab shuttle decending from the sky

anyway, megatron resorts to cheating by using bits of sharpnel as a sword to chop prime up a bit but prime still kicks his ass (his upper cut is just stuff of legend )
prime picks up his big gun and levels it at megatron, who at this point is pleading for mercy "i beg of you prime, show mercy" "mercy megatron?"
unbeknown to prime though, megatron is only stalling for time so he can reach a gun that is inches from his grasp but hotrod sees megatrons scheam and tries to stop him
megatron, seizing the opourtunity, grabs hotrod and uses him as a shield, prime cannot fire and megatron blasts him 4 times in the torso "fall! FALL!!! i would have waited an eternity for this" and all of a sudden, double axehandle to the face/chest send megatron flying over the edge and down 2 stories to the floor
prime then collapses in a heap
kup "prime did it, he turned the tide" as you see the dp picking up their wonded and scruyying off in to a retreat
you then see prime hooked up to some machines while perceptor says he has been too badly damaged to be able to repair him
this is when prime passes the matrix of leadership (which contians all acumilated knowledge of ab history etc) on to ultra magnus
but prime expires before he can make the handover, and hotrod catches it befroe magnus does
cue lots of dramatic music and light etc
then prime dies and goes grey
cue weeping and wailing in the cinema when this happened
it's really dramatic the way it all unfolds, and if you haven't seen it yet, i suggest you go and do so before the real life version comes out
prime does come back to life to regain the ab leadership role, but they are convoluted stories themselves and you really need to understand the tf universe to fully comprehend how things turn out the way they do

the missus picked this up off ebay for me a while back, some sort of box set from Japan to mark the 20th anniversary...
which is all of them up till the end of season 3, then it went to the crappy Jap voices instead of the originals I think as America finished up producing them...
I'll get them zipped up for you in a mo and send them over MSN?

the only problem with getting hld of that double disc dvd is that you need to use a credit card
and i don't want to, even if it means missing out on one of the best films ever
i may have to compromise and get one......................
can't see the pics, at work
and yes pon, i can remember most of the eps, i can even rememebr wathcing them for the first time back when wackaday was on, just for the 4 or 5 minutes every morning i might just go home and crack open some dvds and spend my afternoons doing that beats laying under a car undoing rusty bolts don't it
