Default new runaround: laguna II 1.9dci 120 or mondeo td?

what do you think?

i really like the look of the laguna but it comes like 4th from bottom in JD power and top gear surveys for reliability... the mondeo comes near the top but i don't like the look of it! (new shape, like a passat, not the brand new one tho )

want a decent ish diesel saloon with aircon.... laguna might have xenons as well

thoughts? or something else?

alternatives are 406 - looks like minicab but must be reliable...
audi a4 or passat - bit to much for a decent one...

don't really need a car that big but just sick of bloody small / mid size hatchbacks

deffo mondy

the amount of gearbox's i repaired whilst at renault all coming from their diesel range, with bearing and 5/6th gear failure

Also the Laguna intercoolers use to bow out and then split open

I know of a couple that did, even with the black straps around the cooler and the reprogrammed ecu

they were nippy but just kept going wrong

imho both are as rubbish as each other. If you must then get the mondeo, but the passat would be top of my list.

My old man has not long bought a lauguna 2 and loves it, he was ford service manager for 9years aswell.

He just really didnt like the look of the mundano compared to the laguna inside and out. He looked at specs aswell and for about same milage cars he could get the launa 2k cheaper.

It's just a bit more character than the mundano imo.

I have a Laguna II dci estate.

Its on its 3rd turbo, 3rd intercooler, 3rd cat, all replaced under warranty by Renault whilst the car is completely out of its normal 3 year warranty.

They wont admit there is a problem, but if it falls within certain conditions will fix it all for free.

NEVER heard of Ford doing that.

It drives like a boat, sure it has all the toys inside, but mine eats rear beam bushes (I have replaced 2 sets in 12 months at £120 per set), rear brakes are due £140, front drop link bushes are knackered, I guess I will have to stop using it as a recce car if it can't stand the pace.

Would I have another...... erm on the basis of customer service yes, on the basis of the actual car NO
