Police chiefs were last night forced to urge drivers not to exploit the shortcoming by trying to evade the cameras.

The m1 is going to look like a warmup lap in a grand prix with everyone swerving to get heat into their tyres

them cameras read number plates
so does it matter which lane you are in?

and isn't this the same mail that is on about the girl being arrested for not wanting to sit with forigner talking kids at school that you are all taking the pissout of?

Indeed it is, and much like that story im sure the underlying facts are true (ie she got arrested, the cameras dont work if you change lane) and half or more of the quotes are made up.

But under Home Office 'type approval' rules, each individual set cannot be linked to any of the others. So cars are timed only between sets of number plate readers 'paired' for the same lane.

A spokeswoman for the Home Office said: 'The manufacturers applied for the camera to be type-approved to measure one lane only. It has been type-approved for this use - this can be either the lane under the camera or a lane to either side of it.'

It would take 3 lines of software in all new car ecu's to make them slow
down and obey speed limits as most new cars have sat nav and a virtual
speed limit map could be forced upon us very soon....

....sooner than we all think.

A crude version of this is already in japan and the usa.

ahh but then people would just buy a removal chip etc, just like the 155mph limit on most new cars, Ł150 later and all is removed

Fil, quite correct, but eventually, the majority of car drivers
will have no choice but to keep to the speed limit.

Wont the goverment loose a shit load of cash in speeding fines?

See road tax set to rise big time if that happens
