Default Identifying Sierra Suspension

i want to get some new springs for the saph, but i dunno wot suspension its got on it... i'm told its 4x4, but how do i check?

i know the rears are the same on all of em so thats not a problem, but what about the fronts? is there an easy way to tell what springs i'll need?

also what kinda drop do you recon? i was thinking -25mm?

car is running esccos alloys with 205 profiles on em... and it has a front splitter, so i dont want to get rubbing or anything...

kev, its got std suspension on it at the moment... it looks low coz theyre old, and the springs aint quite up to the job of supporting the big ol v6.

i might just get a full kit tho, how much are konis for a saph? about 400?

ok from what i can tell theres only a few types listed:

normal 2wd
cossie 2wd
and 4x4 (all models)

then you got the estate etc. with coilovers on back etc....

so what distinguishes the 2wd and 4x4 apart... is it just the hub mounting? or topmount too? i assume that if the car has 4x4 hubs then i use 4x4 shox, and if it has 2wd hubs then i use normal shox, and 2wd cossie hubs i use 2wd cossie shox... right?

the car has 4x4 brakes, so its likely that its got 4x4 hubs... i'll check later...

2wd and 4wd suspension are different sizes. that and there is a big hole for the driveshaft on the 4x4 bits.

its simple, check to see if you have a front diff, if you havent then you have 2wd suspension, then check the colour coding on the struts to see if their cosworth or normal 2wd, i cannot remember what colour coding cossie is (think its red.white.red) spadge or other cossie breakers will know . cheers nomad

ok so if its a 4x4 hub its deffo 4x4 suspension right?

but if its a 2wd hub, how am i gonna distinguish it between a "normal" 2wd hub and a cossie 2wd hub? bearing in mind the car's a 2.0 GLSi so it may have "normal" 2wd hubs on it still...

cossie 2wd hubs will be different than other hubs as the 2wd calipers have wider bolt holes so won't fit unless machined onto a standard hub and vice versa!

so we saying that if its got 4x4 brakes and 4x4 hubs... its 4x4 suspension

if its got 4x4 brakes and 2wd hubs then its normal 2wd suspension

weight of engine possibly coz a cossie has more weight at the front end with the turbo, intercooler and the other gubbins, so it could just be that, if you can measure the strut and let me know i can get the correct set made for you
cheers

YOu cant have 4wd hubs on a 2wd car as you have nothing to bolt the hub face onto as there is no drive shaft to hold it all together

Only if you machine a driveshaft down to fit it and keep the hub in one piece.

I doubt anyone bothered to do that on your car so id say you have 2wd suspension.
