A concourse road spec one tested on 5th gear and was slower than an ST150 fiesta

Granted they are wicked old school cars, but in terms of outrigh performance they are still old

And I think a E30 BTCC car pisses on any FWD in that respect.

Aaron (whose car was featured on 5thGear) said that Tiff wasnt really going for it in his or the Lancia they featured. Mainly because it was owned by an individual and had 285 thousand KMs on the clock! (they did buy him a set of tyres as a thankyou though ) By way of comparison a 325i went around Angelsey with its owner driving 2 seconds faster than Tiff in the M3

Whereas they absolutely cane the cars suppplied by manfacturers.

TBH though the Em30 isnt the fastest car on the roads today, but its still 0-60 in 6.5-7 seconds or so and tops out at an indicated (so probably less) 150, so it ought to beat a lot of warm/hot hatches. Where it falls down is lack of mid range. Its an engine you need to rev really (limiter is 7,3) and be in the right gear at the right time.

Goes around corners fairly well though, and as a car to learn how to drive RWD properly its in its element.
