Personally, I love minidisc and have used it for year's but I have to admit - MP3 has overtaken it, and unless you have a big MD collection, it's not really worth starting with it nowadays....
What unit is it? A headunit or a changer? Pics? Specs? Part/model number?
I still prefer MD in the car to CD - no skipping, more durable (no scratching) and easier to store (smaller/less space than CD's) but the limitations of them far outweigh the limitations of MP3's and computers. I am reluctant to ditch MD altogether, so I might just have to get an MP3 player to play though the MD headunit....

i use to use mini disc, think they're quality! loads better than CD
but i used to just copy all my CD's to mini disc then keep the mini discs in the car n the CD originals in the home (that way if ya car gets broke into you dont lose all ya CD collection)
mini discs so much better cos you dont need to keep them in a case
can chuck em about n they dont break
program all track names in to em
n they loads smaller

It is easy, but time consuming... you have to sit there and record it in real time like you did years ago with tapes.
There is no way of burning at x5 speed or whatever like you can with cds/dvds

There are two ways of copying CD's to MD. 1) is real-time like tapes. You need a Minidisc recorder (deck/hifi seperate, or portable "walkman" recorder) and you connect to your hifi with either optical cable (if your hifi outputs in optical) or normal stereo RCAs. Then you simply press record on the MD recorder and PLAY on the CD.....
Or, get yourself a Sony NetMD poertable unit. Plug it into the PC via USB, and transfer MP3's to MD directly from the PC, and faster speeds than real time too (can't remember off top of my head, but think it might be 8 or possible 16x - either way, even 2x is faster than real time!!!!)
Plus, NetMD units are pretty cheap on ebay these days
I'm like Cawood - CD for home (well, I also use MD at home aswell) and MD in the car/van
