The block split in half between the middle two pistons and it became a flat 4?

Ok.
It was a wrong collet retainer combination.
The collets on one valve (cyl 4) had pulled through the retainer
Result, one Z shaped valve!
So for zetec builders everywhere be aware there are different spec collets and caps across the zetec engine range.
Also there are different valvesprings. Some are economy crap that should never be revved past 6.5k
