Default Anyone here an accountant?

I have a question about tax rebates! If you have a full time job and a part time job, at the end of the tax year (april) what kind of rebate would you be looking at! I've been told it's around half tax paid on the part time job! This was a rough guess though so anyone with some facts let me know! Cheeerrssss!

You will only get a rebate from the tax man if your ougoings: fuel, food, clothes, business tools, car lease etc come to more than the tax that is due.

Dont know if that helps.

That totally depends on your total earnings for the year from both jobs and what code number you have. I presume you are being taxed at Basic Rate for your part-time job.

If your combined jobs pay more than your personal allowance there is no reason why your part time work will generate a rebate - you only get the allowances once.

I'm being taxed more on the part time than on the full time! Quite a bit more! Iain Mac, what do you mean my personal allowance?

If you have more than one job, you will get a separate PAYE code for each job in which your earnings are taxed under PAYE, and normally a separate notice of coding for each job. All the reliefs and allowances you are entitled to will normally be included in the tax code for your main job. This means that all your earnings from the second job may be taxed as usually it will have a BR code which is currently 22% of your earning.

A personal allowance is governed by your Tax Code, for example...
Tax allowance = Number X 10 + 9.
So for example, if you earn £20,000 per annum and your tax code is 475L then your tax allowance would be 4759. This is then deducted from your salary to determine your taxable income. For this example, the taxable income is £15,241
