Default Approx min BHP for 10.5 sec 1/4 in 900kg saloon car????

In your opinions what is the minimum amount of horsepower needed to do a 10.5 quarter mile in a 900kg saloon car?

Car runs 13’x10’ rims at the back with appropriately sized soft compound slicks.

Engine is mounted a foot further back than normal and suspension will be optimised for good weight transfer.

Will 400-450 bhp be enough????

550 hp to 650 hp minimum i would have thought, 720hp per ton, would be more than capable,

Depends entirely on traction off the line. You'd need to be putting in under 2s for the 60ft to achieve your goal.

Not if you have soooooooooooo much power that you have 300mph terminals! you could push the fooker over the line and then floor it and still piss it!

But I do see your point Mike. Traction is very important

At a guess you'll need 650+ bhp with a full dog box.

but as above it does depend on th 60ft time.

Lee,
He has told us how much power he has, please learn to read (God that felt GOOD ).

As I said, the only way he will achieve his goal with this amount of power is by being able to put it down to the ground, which would require a set up similar to Danny B's Sierra .

450bhp with a Danny-B-esque 1.6 second 60ft would see you into the mid tens possibly.

The 2.0 60ft that Mike mentions wouldnt even get you close.

That purple corsa at TOTB runs under 2.0 60ft times at the pod, has around 400bhp and weighs around 900kg, so you need to be saving a BIG chunk of time off the line to get close to achieving your goal with that sort of power as his best time to date is 11.8

1.3 seconds in drag racing is a LONG time.

Performance BMW have claimed to have featured the fastest street legal BMW at 10.53 sec 1/4

Just wondered if the next evolution of the turbo M3 that my mate rolled my be in with a chance. 400+ bhp in a stripped out e21 shell.

Was a pretty pointless comment then really if you meant under by that much.

whats next in your detailed advice for doug, a comment on the engine needing "over 50bhp"

More to it than Power, mine has lots of that but limited grip off the line.
Can muster 650bhp ton but cant get in the 10's ( only tried one 1/4 tho)
Know a VW that can beat mine down the qtr, altough I have 20mph faster terminal. Its a funny old game.

Thats what i was thinking. This thing has very lightweight 13x10 inch centre lock formula rims that are great for acceleration. It has wide and fairly high profile soft compound slick tyres that we can run at about 20 psi. the engine is further back than in a normal saloon and we can set the suspension up for good weight transfer off the line.

I reckon we could get a good time out of it.

so in a real world situation rod, your car is faster than the vw, once your up and rolling you have pulled past his speed and terminated 20 mph faster!!

so down a mtorway slip rd from 60 onwards both side by side surely you would waste the vw?

Totally different level of Performance once moving, probably twice as quick past 60. 1/4 mileing is a discipline rather like Topspeed.
Mine would run low 10's if Danny B got hold of it for sure, but it would not be as nice on the road so I prefer to quote 0-150 12.6 to represent my cars performance not a pathetic 11.5 Qtr.

Well, the trick is to listen to what Mike says really, you can get a 10.5 if you have a vehicle that:
weighs less than 10 tonnes
does 60ft in less than 2 seconds
has more than 12 bhp
(all by amounts he doesnt know or wont say )

What more could you possibly need to know?

Difficult in rwd Cossie.
Lee is fastest RWD at the mo 11.43 & hes been trying for some time to get in the 10's. He has circa 600bhp. Im always being told mine is just a Topspeed car, well a 10.5 sec rwd Cossie would just be a Drag car, its more difficult to combine the two with the limitation on Tyre widths etc.
Rod

Quick Reply: Approx min BHP for 10.5 sec 1/4 in 900kg saloon car????
