Both cars need to be taxed, insured and MOT'd. Easy enough to do, just a case of the registered keeper of the car with the plate on filling in some forms and getting the plate put on retention, and then you transferring the plate onto your car. I don't think it can be transferred from one car to another without going on retention first, it's just a paperwork exercise and a bit longwinded but isn't difficult to do.

It can go straight from one car to another, will cost 80 quid.

Doner car needs to be Taxd/SORNd within the last 6 months with current MOT. Recieving car needs to have current TAX/SORN & MOT.

To put the plate on retention first will cost you 105 quid and the Registered Keeper just needs to fill out a form (V778/1 I think) and put you down as the Nominee, unless YOU are the Registered Keeper of the Doner car then you automatically go down as the Grantee.

I think Clares told you most of how it works and your car will need to have a valid MOT when the marque goes on there.

If you get stuck then try this site http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles.aspx

Or failing that pop round to my place seen as I'm not going anywhere at the moment as on crutches

To transfer to your vehicle....
DONOR VEHICLE needs to be taxed. Or if tax has expired within the past six months, DVLA will normally allow it.
Be prepared to take the vehicle to your local DVLA office for an inspection.
You will need to submit the last tax disc, V5c reg document, MOT certificate.
RECIPIENT VEHICLE needs to be taxed and MOTd (if applicable).
You will need to submit the last tax disc and MOT cerificate plus V5c document.
Fill in form V317 (get if from local DVLA office or download from DVLA website.
Send cheque for eighty quid!

You don't need to put it on retention before you transfer it.

If you have any more queries, just give me a PM via my profile.
