Default thermostat or fan broken?ne ideas?

any help grately appreciated.
driving yesterday smelt raditor was getting hot. got in some traffic lights and the temperature gauge flew up to the hot end. put internal fans on hot to release the heat. got to where i was going and the radiaotr fan wernt on. switched off engine, restarted and the fans began. on the drvie home, the fans still didnt come on adn was getting hot at 30mph which it hasnt done in 4 years. the radiator is full the coolant resivoir is full too. could it be a dodgy theromstat or a dodgy fan sender, wiring?. got a new thermo guna put. see in our mind if the thermo aint working then it aint guna get to the opitmum temp to turn the fan on, so duz sound like thermo? but any other ideas?

thougth id pik some more brains before take wrong part out and create an unessassry leak!

cheers ppl
thanks xr4i

i would try fan switch first. same thing happened to mine. they started cutting it and random times. sometimes when VERY hot sometimes at normal temperature.

also fan switch is cheaper/quicker to do.
