right, my desktop at the mo has a abit ul8 mobo in it with a athlon 64 3200 cpu

ive just got a athlon 64 x2 4600 cpu

ive had a root around on the amd site and the 3200 cpu use 1.35 to 1.4v

the new one used 1.3 to 1.35v

will the extra .05v damage the new processor or will it auto adjust the voltage ?

is there anything else i need to change or can i just swap the cpu's over ?

thanking you kindly

Matt

Check the BIOS version on the motherboard. Does it support this CPU? You may need to update the bios to a later version. Can download updates from the motherboard manufacturers site.

The motherboard will automatically set the voltages correctly. (unless ofcourse you have altered them manually in the BIOS).

I would install the latest AMD dual core CPU driver for Windows XP and also the fix it lists which can help game performace. Get 'em here:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html

Let us know what performance increase you see! I got a Athlon64 3200 too and was thinking of going dual core.
