Default Oil cooler??

Was thinking about one for my RS 2000, but i've been told i don't really need it? Car is basically standard, but hopefully in a while i'll have a tuned I4 in there. I'm not sure how much more the new lump will rev, but i'd guess at over 1000 rpm more than standard.

I sort of want to have every 'external' mod done so the car is ready to just drop the engine in when its been built.

There is rule of thumb with oil coolers.

Involves engine displacement and RPM over standard.

Will look it up

<2000cc

RPM
+500 = 10 row
+1500 = 13row
+2500 = 19 row
+3000 = 25 row

2000>cc

RPM
+500 = 13 row
+1500 = 16row
+2500 = 25 row
+3000 = 34 row

from Mocal

So no more that 13 row unless your going for a 2300cc block.

Modern oils need to be hot to work, they can do more harm than good

Thanks

So i'd be better leaving the cooler until the engine is in? I was worried about the oil being over cooled on a standard engine.

I'd advise you get an thermostatic oil filter take off plate, this will help get oil up to temp and only open and allow flow to the cooler when required.
