Default MOT Questions

My van is due its MOT but ive got a question about brake discs and the boor locks!

First the discs have a small wear line on them but will they fail the MOT on this? Its about 1-2mm either side!

Alos the rear door lock and drivers door lock wont open or lock on the key only from the inside, will this get me a fail?

Finaly the windscreen has a few chips in it,where do they have to be to fail? Also how can i tell if they could be repaired?

I know im askin alot but i want it to go through cus of the new rules i dont wanna have to pay for a re-test!

i could be wrong but as long as the brakes work thas all that matters.the door locks doesnt come into it mate, cos the locks dont work on my van either.(is it an escort by any chance?).im sure a chipped windscreen is a failure,so best to see your local aotoglass or summit and see if they can repair it.sorry i havnt been much help but i thought i'd reply seein as no one else was going to!

As long as there is at least 1.5mm visible lining on the pad , it won't fail.
That would be 1.5mm over the top of the lip.

Glass is in the drivers field of vision and is very precise as to where it is, any screen fitter will tell you if it can be repaired.

Rear door no problem, drivers door is a problem.

MOT reasons for failure:

a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed position
b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.

Windscreens.
1. In Zone 'A:

a. damage not contained within a
10mm diameter circle,

Zone 'A is:
. in the swept area of the Windscreen
. 290mm wide
. centred on the centre of the steering
wheel.

has been about 8 years since i did mot's at dads testing station,

the wear lines on the discs shouldnt fail its only if the disc has worn thin

the doors need to open from inside and out with the handle not with the key

cant help with the window as i cant see it, although if it is outside the swipe of the drivers wiper you are allowed a bigger size of chip before it will fail, you should be able to get a ruler from a windsreen place that has the size gauges on it

hope this is of help

Thanks guys!I think the doors will pass as they can be opened but not locked...and fiat wanted over £300 for a lockset!(fiat scudo) nearly evry owner ive spoken to has had a lock problem!

It seems the discs will also pass, but the winscreen will probably pass as the only chip in zone A is smaller than 10mm in diametre but il just try and have it repaired anyways!

Just gotta replace a couple of bushes and a CV boot! ....Hopefully!
