Default Poorly Cosworth

My friend has a Sierra Cosworth which is running a stage 1. It was pretty much standard but he has added quite a few parts (RS500 intercooler, Bailey oil seperater etc etc) The only problem now is it wont start for about 30mins of trying and when it does its running rough with black smoke out the back. He is thinking it could be the map sensor. Any ideas??

if he hasnt changed the injectors/chip/map sensor and only added the parts listed then it really should be as it was.wonder if you have pulled the wiring to the blue temp sensor at back of head on pass side-bit hard to see but thats where it is-sometimes when fitting breather kits it can disturb/damage the wires or the plug.check the plugs to the temp sensor and the map sensor, pull back the rubber cover on the plugs.

had an escos once that was overfuelling to death, taking ages to start-that turned out to be map sensor.
