Default Braided brake lines...

can you use braided brake lines as an every day road car or not?IE from front to back underneath the car.

I was told that no i cant use them. I said okay no problem i will simply slide the braided hose over the top of the orginal lines as an effect that they are fitted.

He says on both options the car will fail an MOT. Is this true???

You can use braided hoses on a road car. However, it is advisable to use solid brake lines where possible to avoid a slightly spongey peddle.

He will want to see them to ensure that theyre not rusty. If you cover solid pipes in a braided sheath he wont be able to tell if they are good or not hence a fail.If you run them inside the car you will be defeating the object of having them which i assume is to look nice.

You can run stainless braided hoses under the car with no problems at all. I have done it for years.

As for the comment regarding keep hard pipes to stop a spongey pedal, WTF??? You get a less spongey pedal with decent braided hoses, as they retain there shape for almost there whole lifetime, whereas standard pipes corrode and standard hoses perish.

If you go from master cylinder to caliper, you have less potential for leaks too, as you have less joints to fail.

.
The hoses are still plastic under the braid, they will flex/expand. Solid pipes do not flex/expand and modern ones do not corrode. Replacing the flexi rubber hoses with braided hoses can improve bake feel, replacing the metal pipes won't.
If you are running the braided hoses outside of the car get the ones that are plastic coated. Otherwise, grit gets in amongst the braid and can damage the brake pipe.

Exactly Replacing the hardlines from the front to the back of the car with braided lines would make your brakes slightly worse! Whats better, good brakes or nice looking brake lines

Get the hardlines made out of stainless steel tube

As far as I am aware braided lines are ok front to back etc....as long as they are well secured.....if you leave them free they car move about when you press the pedal and hence giving a spongey pedal.

All I read is people posting bollox...

Fluid will pass down a tube, the point of that tube beginning to expand under pressure is WAY WAY WAY above what your right (or left) foot could put it under.

Braided lines will NOT give you a worse pedal feel in that respect.

Might be a stupid question but are the braided hoses to the caliper OK for the MOT?

Currently in this country yes.

They system is checked for performance not looks

They can fail in places like Australia or country's hooked on EU laws, as they are non stamped and modified from original fittment etc.

I have braided lines, but have not finished building the car yet. I am not expecting a firm peddle.

As indicated on the Turbosport thread, it takes a lot more effort to make and fit copper lines. I may still use copper lines in some places, I have not fully decided.

Be realistic, most people on Turbosports, and any forum, do not have the budget to buy high quality braided hoses like Prodrive do. You get what you pay for.

Sorry it was rather tongue in cheek, but its the same with Wilwoods, which I think is what Tom uses on his car. Im sure I read 1 post somewhere on the WWW that they flex - so we must all stop using them incase its true

lol at nuts

all im confused about is... why do you want brake lines that "look good"

how often do you gather your mates round to lie on the floor and look under your car

well th ecar has been painted, the interior has all been done, new engine nearly all built so engine bay needs a tidy and all thats left to do is underneath.

So why wouldnt i want my brakes to look good

The whole of my running gear is being powdercoated and stuff in 6 weeks time when car is taken of the road so its only natural that i dont neglect the fuel and brake lines.
