grippers arent all that i spat mine out at brunters launching it
it has been fixed and refitted ready to go quite an easy job
ripped nearlyall the teeth off the crown wheel and pinion
if you can afford it go for the 9" diff
this should be fit and forget
thanks jc

Gripper diffs are very strong as are Quiafe ATB's! Its the crown wheel and pinnion that are the weak link unless you get them shot peened etc and then they should last a fair bit longer

John
you didn't break the actual unit did you

![Rolling Eyes](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
you won't break the actual unit because it's made from EN 38/42 harden steel
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
even if you had a ATB 7.5 the weakest link aswell as the gripper is the standard crown wheel and pinion
to aviod breaking the crown wheel and pinion the only thing to do is get is shot peened and polished ,like mine

Steve Ns lasted a fair old while, probably because it never gripped...big up the nankangs
If it gripped i bet it'd not have lasted long at all. Was on itsd way out though if i remember rightly

when i used to have a 400bhp 2wd saff it had a standard diff. i did about 10 full on launches on it and it was fine and i thought no need for an uprated diff this standard one is taking the abuse.
when i did my 11th launch , BANG went the standard diff

and its torque and delivery thereof that spits diffs
one minute 0 then suddenly about 400lb/ft
im only at about 6 launches so far, i know im pushing my luck which is why they are few and far between

Just make sure you maintain a plated one properly
ie, regular oil changes
Checking for the snap back i think it called, i was told the way to check was hold the drive shafts and get some-one to try and turn the prop and there should be no slack movement.
Is this correct? Bernie or markk?

"backlash" is the term you are looking for m8 !!
and yes to put it in a sort of way , the preset backlash should be very minimum but must be present !! its sort of one of those things that when you feel it after youve messed with a few then you will know if its right/wrong !!
and yes oil changes are important !!
