your at the ONLY time of your life that it makes sense to get the qualifications you need
Do it now... a little pain for a year or two will soon be forgotten when your doing a job you WANT to do

Experience helps you get a job - for sure!
But they ususaly look for a qualification as well - and to get that you need the basic three Cs in Maths, English and a Science.
Without those you will struggle in life!

My brother was the same but kept putting it off as he had a cushy office job from school. Eventually got made redundant and realised no one would take him. He went back to college and then onto a carpentry course. He has now finished his 3 year of Carpentry at Reading Tech, top of the class with Distinctions in all areas and is now on his way becoming an aussie resident with it.
It opens a lot of doors Luke, go for it while you are young.

Its definatly best to do it whilst your young.
I'm 22 (granted not exactly old) and work in an office which I dispise.
If I didnt have a car to run, rent/bills to pay then I'd consider going to college to study something I'd like to do as a life long career. As I see it now I've gone past the stage where I could go into full time education

I am 24 now but with bills and responsibilities I could never go back to an apprenticeship or education. I've fucked a lot up over the last few years
Just wish I'd had the passion for cars I have now when I was 18. I'd have become a mechanic. I'm really good at learning how to do practical stuff like that when someone is teaching me.
Could have gone far. Chose IT instead because when I was younger that was where the top money was. Now the market has changed so much for IT jobs and I wish I'd taken the car route. Possibly even an automotive design course at uni instead of just doing a mechanic's apprenticeship.

Sorry I dont have any 'positions' to offer Big G but this bird can start monday
jonny664 no probs, there are loads of motorsport teams out there looking for help at weekends, unfortunatly as you will learn a lot of it is done voluntary, but does give you lots of valuable experience. It could even gain you a big advantage when applying for places such as those at M-Sport etc.
c.h.r.i.s. the offer is still open to you too, if you change your mind.
We leave tomorrow evening

So after 6 or 7yrs when you fed the fook up with looking at a ford/bmw or what ever you want to work on you will then struggle working on anything else and wont look to good when you go for the job at the local merc garage and you have only had experiance on fords....
I started at the bottom, 16 yrs old just out of school, qualified from college working for a family firm who actually taught me how to repair/fabricate/problem solve things not just the modern mechanic who just fits new parts to old cars...
To me there is no skill in being one of these modern technition blokes.....

I had a couple lodging with me for a year they were doing apprentaships and mechanic training, seem to enjoy it and doing well now ones working for a hyundi dealership other one working for a an independant fiat garage getting a good start in there chosen careers. The major problem is if your over 25 and want to get training its impossible to get a break anyplace, imagine being 25+ an told your too old
