OK, so what are the 16V Escort 1.8 Si's like?
Looks like the 1.6 isn't thought of too fondly and I can insure a 1.8 16v version for about £300 more. What's the bhp as standard and what can be done to the engine within the confines of say, £400 - £500? I'm not looking to do big things with that amount, obviously, just interested on what it could do and what kind of figures I'd be looking at.
My mate has one of these in standard form and it does seem damn quick and would be a great car after the mk2 Golf GTi that I'm having to sell due to insurance being astronomical on it.
Does anybody here have anything good to say about these cars?
Cheers guys

I had one for a first car.
I loved the looks of it, but if you think it's fast, you've got to be kidding!
£400-£500 will get you an exhaust and filter, and without spending insane pointless amounts of money on it, it wont make any reasonable power.
As standard, they come in 105/115 bhp forms, and the exhaust and filter will give you a nice noise.............

That looks nice Pon. I'm gutted about having to get shot of the Golf as it's my first car/project and still has a ways to go and is fast as. But needs must and I think the Si would do a good job for me. Only thing to remember when you say it's not fast is that I've never been in a Cossie or a Scooby, Evo, etc. so from my own experiences I find it fast.
Cheers

............
I'm sure that for less than £500 you could get down the scrappy and get all the bits you need off a 130 spec 1.8. ie throttlebody, ecu.....dunno if cams are different but you should be able to beef it up a little bit for £500 if you use your imagination. Good Luck with it

Hmm... good thinking batman! Are they reliable? My mate's has never had anything more than an exhaust gasket give up on him. I could see it being a good car to have for three years til I'm 25 when the real automotive fun starts
Only thing is, not too sure where to find the TBs as I'm a novice and have a limited knowledge. I'm happy to try my hand at anything but I've never encountered TBs so wouldn't know what I was looking for!

What are the gains from the Mondeo TB and would it cost a lot to have someone do the mod?
How can you tell if an Si is a 130 or not?

Nice and revvy little engine. Fit a filter and a quality exhaust (Magnex). Maybe chip it. Without throwing cash at it though it won't make pots of power. What I've mentioned above should be enough to keep you entertained for a while at least.
There's always N2O.

I'm in Leeds. Would I look a tosser if I put WRC or cossie style arches on with a wrc spoiler? (I think I already know the answer but just thought I'd ask!).
I have a thing for Escorts and I was getting over it then my dad bought an S reg one two weeks ago and got me back into that mindset! How much should I be looking at paying for the car if it's say.... a 96 model? (the newer one).

Just to clairfy, the Si never came in 130 spec.
That was reserved for the XR3i and Ghia cabs.
The Si was only available in 105 spec (the very first of the Mk6s) and 115 spec (same as GTi).

That's the cab, and it's not an Si............
If they're 130, they're Ghia Si............... I'm sad, I know the specs..... plus, they'll be MkVs in most cases too...........
