Default Heat Shield... erm.. heat proofing!

Howdy Ho

Got a new heatshield (ta Max) to replace the pants bit of heatshield that lives there now. Was advised to cover the back with something heat proof to stop it fading again. I’ve asked about (see Mike, see) and been told that 1: The foam is pants but cheap and 2: The sticky stuff is great but dollars.

Has anyone got any experience of this, who sells what, what works etc? I might even go so far as doing it myself

Or alternatively, just heat-wrap the down pipe.... Also cheap as chips - £15-20 tops.

i would far rather stick some sticky stuff on the underside of the heatshield that is currently on the floor in the front room

Mike:

1: Is it easy to do?

2: How much and where from?

3: I'm guessing that'd take all the heat out so the shield itself won't fade?

That is all (for now )

That is all (for now ) What do you mean for now, you still haven't spent a penny

Ah well. I have to do some pain in the arse hoses anyway so hey ho.

Okay, will have a look on the site. As for the sticky stuff though, how much will a bit be to whack on the back of the heatsheild? A couple of square foot'd do it I guess. Trying to stop the the bit of the heatshield you see going brown.

Mike, don't you know the deal? I ask you all the questions and then go off and buy somewhere else

The cheapest heat resistant tape is £20 + del for a 15' reel 1 3/8" wide, which might not be enough to cut into strips to do your heat shield. The next size up is 30' long and would definitely do it, but is £38 + del...

Of course, the snap-straps come in 18" x 6 pack for £22 + del or 9" x 12 pack for £34 + del.
