Default Dodgy MOTs! ?? :wall: M176 WOW ?

Went to look at a car today, with a view to having it as a little
track car project, an RS1800 fiesta. From a small Car dealer.

drove over 100 miles to see it, got there and it all looked ok
drove ok.

But Looked underneith and there were 2 places in the Sill where i could
put 1 or 2 fingers thru the rust holes!! (one could be picked at to be made a lot worse i think!)

and another underneith the drivers door seal. (probably little finger size i guess)

the MOT was 2 weeks old

Anyone know fez RS1800 M176 WOW ? (pretty sure thats what it was!)

200 odd miles for fook all !

im guessing it Should of been an MOT fail looking at it !

Well the guy said he only got the car in yesterday!!!

so the previous owner was the guy who got the MOT done.

i said i'd be interested if you re-newed the MOT as i dont like the
look of the rust... the dealer waffled about 'mots are not dogey now-days, a garage would be stupid to lalalalla'

The car could still have passed the mot with holes in the sills mate, as long as they were not within 30cm of a load bearing member, such as a seat belt anchorage point or suspension mounting etc etc. Have a look on the mot cert and see if it says that there was an Advisory noticed issued along with it, this could have the corrosion you have seen on the car mentioned by the tester as only being advised to the person that presented the car for its mot. The mot is not as serious as everyone seems to think these days and your car needs to be in a fairly rough condition before it fails, know this through personal experience as im an mot tester to trade.Hope this helps you mate.

well the HOLE in the drivers door sill was next to the seat belt anchor point! (just the other side of the door shut rubber seal)

the sales guy was banging on about
'it cant be rust in structural parts'

It had a fail sheet, but that was emissions related and Lower suspension
arm related.
really wish i had taken some pics now!!

What if I think it has wrongly passed?
These cases usually relate to recently purchased vehicles and you should let VOSA know as soon as possible. VOSA will then offer an appointment within 5 working days to recheck your vehicle without charge, provided:

not more than 28 days have elapsed since the MOT test
not more than three months have elapsed since the MOT test for a rust or corrosion related problem
From http://www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring/Ow...3&chk=i1%2BskO

Dont hesitate to report it, the cheeky scamming bastards.

Cheers.
