resetting an ecu

whats the proceedure with resetting a zetec ecu? mines running like shit lately and ive a feeling its an ecu problem so im going to disconnect it tonight when i get to work and then reconnect it tomorow morning before i leave, but whats the proper way of letting it relearn its settings?

no actual set way of doing it then? i was told a while ago something about holding it at 2k for 10 mins or something, then driving it normally, then driving it hard for 10 mins
