Default Import papers??

Thinking of buying a japanese import Mitsubishi Lancer within the next few days, so what kind of papers etc should it have with it confirming that the import has been carried out correctly and above board?-(never bought an import car before so pretty clueless TBH )

all depends at what stage you are buying it... Is it from an auction at a dock over here or is it still over there??

Buying from a private seller, he says that it was imported by a Ford dealer in 2001!- (the car is a 51 reg)

The seller might have a copy from the Ford dealer of the import Certificate for Inspection of Completion if it was a new car, which seems it was if imported 2001 and on a 51 plate.

I have got the one for my Evo from MMC in Tokyo, as it was imported new.

If the car has been in the country since 2001, import papers aren't important as the V5 will be suffice. Make sure you get a full HPI check done though.
