I believe that for it to be a "race" both parties have to be driving accordingly, and i dont see how they can prove that without even knowing who the other guy is.
Get on pepipoo and ask though mate, as we are all just guessing on here but they KNOW the law.

my cousin, about 25 years back, got done for furious acceleration
better than the drink drive they were going to do him for
he was at a set of lights, about 3 in the morning, cop car pulled up along side, the lights turned green, he floored it, they wern't expecting it (they were in one of them little panda cars and he had a cortina savage)
he got home and there was a knock on the door about 20 minutes later
he said that he was so worried about getting caught he'd had a few quick shots, but they still tried to do him for dd
i don't even know what the code for furious acceleration is, but it's the one to have on your license ain't it

Depending on the speed, you can still get banned for this, but with a good brief, you could get it down to just speeding, or with a superb brief (see the keepondriving website that has been posted up) even off scott free, as the CPS / police etc are prone to making procedural mistakes that mean you can get off on technicalities....

I have been taken to court for driving without due care and attention twice about 3 and 4 years ago now, I ended up with a £300 fine and 4 points the first time and then a £200 fine and 5 points the next.
Hope you dont get to fucked but I wouldn't have thought you'd lose your license though
Cheers
