Are you sorted now though mate?

If the bolts are slightly smaller (read thinner) than all the other studs, then use the M6 torque setting and you should be ok!

Looks like i was right to show some concern............

Last night decided to torque everything down, and me being a anal shitebag undone all of the cap bolts. Then went about loctiting all the studs ready for the bolts.

Set everything up to the NM Ford suggests in the manual, first 2 done up a treat then it went rapidly down hill from there.

Out of 16 studs, 3 decided they have had enough & pull themselves out of the head.......

Proper kick in the teeth this, if it wasnt for certain people it would be broken.

So what are my options now, i take it its going to be an expensive fix! which just isnt needed right now & just isnt cricket!

Fairly simple and cheap: Helicoil the faulty studs holes....

Borrow or buy a Helicoil kit.

Carefully remove the "loose" studs, clean out the holes, cut the new thread in, and then insert the stainless steel Helicoil's.

To someone whos done Helicoil-ing before, it's an 5 to 10 minute job (per coil).

5 of mine have been done by myself at different times - funnily enough everytime I used a torque wrench!!! the only problem is the "swarf" factor!!! you need to mask all of the head up before drilling each particular hole!!

I now just nip them up as tight as I dare by feel!!

I have used one of these kits whilst this occured at the ZOO, much to brom's amusement!! I did 2 there cos he made me use a torque wrench!!

its very simple to do mate and not expensive either. I had to do most of mine on the exhaust side.

So its a easy fix then.........

Are these kits expensive to buy then? Deffo going the helicoil route being honest, as from what i've heard its the right way to do it.

Right i know the studs are M8, so do i need to buy an M8 kit or a M9 kit?

Also what is the other measurement for?

M8 kit mate its easy follow instrutions carefully make sure u drill out old thread first with drill supplied or recomended otherwise u tap it and tap breaks = a very large mess

This repair will be stronger than original so no woories there.

when torqueing up nuts go mid way ie middle of setting specified think its 18 nm never use top just in case.

when u order a kit the coils can be obtained in different lengths so measure the depth of damaged thread and try to get the nearest size to it NOT BIGGER !!!!!!!

COILS CAN BE OBTAINED THRU YOU LOCAL NUT AND BOLT SUPPLIER

YOU NEED M8 X 1.25 !!!!!!!!!

REGARDS

paul

any probs pm me

I would only do the ones needed.

Please be carefull as this is your cheapest chance to fix it..

otherwise it will need to be ally welded and re drilled and tapped which will cost £££'s

good luck
