Default Honda Civic Type R's

I'm interested in a '55 plate model with less then 3k on the clock, which is one of the last of the run models, with Recaro interior, type R calipers etc. Does anyone know of anything to look out for on them?

I guess on a car thats less then a year old and from a main honda dealer would be pretty sound but you never know.

Cheers in advance

Quite fond of them and the gearstick being in a weird place isn't a problem once you are used to it. Not much torque but so many revs. They are a hoot

If you can get one get a JDM one they come with a LSD and 220 bhp the same as in the Integra DC5.

Great fun cars for the money just get use to ragging the nuts off of it

I have an 02 one. Had it almost 2 years now. Cant really fault it, never had a thing go wrong eith it, and it gets thrashed to 8 1/2 rpm 7 days a week.

Only thing I would recommend is get rid of the shit Bridgestones thay fit as standard! I also changed the size from 205/45/17 to 215/40/17 and its superb now

only thing to look out for is front tyre wear if it's been owned by a boy racer, but at that age and mileage the chances are it's been leased by an employee

nah the cars never left the showroom well from what i know,

was parked up with the nsx an honda monkey bike for a short while now,

i dont understand the full dealership thing but he was saying that whoever buys the type R premium (i think its called? might be wrong) will have one of the last EPs registerd, sort of like J an K plate S2 RST's

But as i said i have the number if he wants to give them a ring.

Turning circle is crap though

thanks for the input guys.

The car is up for £14995 but hoping to get a smidge knocked off as there are a couple of marks on it that I spotted whilst having a butchers round it to begin with.

The only thing thats stopping me is outstanding finance on my BM and getting an agreed value on it etc.

But yeah, the more I think about it, the more i want it lol

I had an 02 really nice car

check the oil they drink abit every petrol stop

have it geometry checked before you buy as some came very badly setup

dump the air box for a AEM CAI V1 Filter and it becomes a race car

The last ones have been fitted with

red recaro bucket seats
red carpet
rear tints
type-r embossed on calipers (for people who care about calipers)
momo steering wheel

This is version is known as the "premier" to joe bloggs or 05.5YM to the dealers.

There are also 2 version of type r,

mk1, mk2 or facelift, pre facelift depending on who you talk to

differences are

diff rear lights
diff front lights
front grill & badge bigger on facelift
indicators on mirrors not wing
red door inserts on facelift
steering + suspension tweeks
slightly more soundproofing on facelift
lighter flywheel

0 - 60 6.4 facelift
0 - 62 6.6 facelift

0 - 60 6.6 pre-facelift
0 - 62 6.8 pre-facelift

Oh and Ian is right everyone changes the stock bridgstones to either toyo proxies 215/40/17 or yokohama parada spec 2s

Oil use is also completely random, mines used 1 litre in 9000 which including the first 500 running in miles. Others use more.

Fuel economy is good if your cruising and not so at 8000rpm which is what you expect.

Had mine a year and love it, hassle free dealers a good, mine came with a 3 year 90,000 mile warranty + engine/gearbox with the option to extend.

Cheers

Matt
