I would give my left ball for an RS200.
THE ultimate Ford IMO - I may be buying a cossie powered rep soon !
I know its not the same but it will be cheaper to run and more user
friendly on a day to day basis.

Ferrari F430- Stunning to look at, amazing to drive, reliable and modern.
RS200- Ugly, shit to drive, old and unreliable!
I just don't get it how the RS200 would be the ultimate car to own in your opinion ???
If you had a 20 car collection or something then yes the 200 would be cool to have and I do think they are cool... but come on lets be serious!!!!

355, 360, Porsche turbos are all abit er city boy gay Use one hard and its gonna cost you as much to run as an RS200... I would take an RS200 anyday
Would be a hard call between a GT2 and RS200 but I think the RS200 would still get my vote
Offer me an Enzo or an F40 might be a different story but then there a different league

F40's are NOT a rare car at all really. Cool as fuck but I would much rather have an F430 as an everyday tool than a shonky 80's Tractor in a stunning dress!
Would like both to be honest but I drove an F40 and was really disappointed

Chip? Really Kev?
I don't think so, just practical application of a bit of knowledge.
If Dunc wants a fast road/track car, then why an RS200? For all the reasons I listed above, it's a bad idea.
If you want one for the heritage thing, fine. If you want one to use in motorsport, fine. But for a weekend toy to be used on the track, it's a terrible idea.
You can go just as fast, for half the money, and have probably more fun, with none of the expense in a Caterham CSR for example....
Why would YOU take the RS200 over a Ferrari 360 for god's sake?

Like you I own an Escort Cosworth and a RS Focus and I've driven a RS200 and I’ve been a passenger in one for an hour and I've driven a 360 on track.
I've always said the only car I would sell my Escort for was a RS200 however I can't bring myself to sell it for anything as it was my dream to own one from the day Ford's started selling them.
However it's true they can be a pain to drive, after all it’s a racecar. There's not much foot room if you have size 11 feet like mine. It's noisy, very noisy and it will drive you mad on long trips. After my passenger trip I had a headache, but the performance in one with same power as the Escort!!!
Compared to the Escort, well I could at a push live with the Escort as my daily car, but in traffic? The Focus, what an every day car, if only I could prize it away from the wife. The 360, it's made to do 190 and go to the shops on Saturday, a great car but then it should be for the cost new, but the servicing costs, you think a Cosworth is bad!
Running costs aren’t that bad, a standard service and cam belt change compared to the Escort is cheaper on the service bills I've seen, as the normal service parts are much cheaper. The scary bit is if you break it. The engine is dear but still all available. The gear train is the big one; look after it at all costs! Buying one, just the usual rules apply, get the best you can and make sure it's genuine.
Selling it, well the classic car market goes up and down in line with houses but the falls are bigger. At the moment their on the up but this isn't a car you’re going to sell in Autotrader next Friday. Classic car auctions and word of mouth within the owners are how these are mostly sold and can take a long time to achieve the price you want. Remember in the early 90's they were changing hands for over £100,000 but fell back to £30,000. Now depending on spec expect to pay £45,000-75,000 for base 250 bhp version depending on if you want a good used car or a show car.
If you want something to scare you and put a big grin on your face at the same time and have something quite rare which with luck might make some money over time then buy one and join me, hopefully I'm getting one next week.
If you want to talk about my experience in buying one PM me your mobile number.

A Focus is a LOT more than that, have you driven one??
And as already said, the Escos has more in common with a 4x4 saff than any Escort.

Cult classic yes - for it's short lived motorsport history and pedigree, not for it's ability as a road car.
IIRC, didn't Ford have huge difficulty shifting the 200 road going examples?

I like my cars with a punch in the back, and yes the ferrari is in a different league to any ford bar the GT40, would I own one? if I had the money to? no.
I personally wouldn't spend that amount on an old ford either, whether it be a rally car or not. End of the day it was built to compete with cars 2 decades ago and will no way perform like a modern day example.
I know the feeling that everytime you look round people have these sports cars. Porsche's are like BMW's were 5 years ago. BMW's are like a Mondeo now. Cars have lost their status IMO. If you want something nuts then get something completely rediculous like an aerial atom. and keep the escort/focus. I can't see the fun in spending near on 100k for something that in my eyes is an old ford which won't do too well.
On the other hand if you want that old-skool push in the guts and being thrown about with deafening noise then get one. But to say a ferrari 360 compares to a ford RS200 is stupid. Completely different cars to each era which cannot be compared to each other.

And they're not slower. If you'd actually driven a good one, running properly, you'd know that. An F40 hits 100mph in 8 seconds on a lazy run, and at 120mph it's just getting into it's stride. I've witnessed 200mph (GPS) in one myself (and that wasn't Vmax!) - but it's not just the top speed, it's the way in which it gets there!
If you're going to have a discussion about such things at least make sure your information is accurate, or you'll just end up sounding like a dick.
